MUNICH - Friday, June 8th 2012 [ME NewsWire]
Ultra slim Cinterion module is small enough for uniquely convenient wearable device
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Regulatory News:
Cinterion, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication technology and a Gemalto (Euronext NL 0000400653 GTO) company, today announced that the advanced PHS8 modulehas been integrated into a leading-edge M2M lone worker protection device in the U.S., “Identicom®” by Connexion2. The next generation device uses the Cinterion module to provide high-speed and always-on wireless communications between workers, security personnel and management. The solution is used to improve the safety of hotel workers, healthcare personnel and all employees that work alone or in remote locations.
The Cinterion PHS8 is a unique two-millimeter thick module used in the Identicom device to provide simultaneous high-speed data, voice, GPS and video communications. The Identicom, about the size of a credit card, can be easily and securely worn for optimized convenience. It features an easy to activate “Red Alert” button that immediately streams audio and video to a security monitoring station for immediate help in emergencies. With GPS capabilities, the Cinterion module helps supervisors improve productivity by optimizing staff deployment as project needs fluctuate, and can verify employee location at a moment’s notice. The Cinterion module’s optimized power management eliminates the need to frequently recharge batteries, keeping employees connected even during long shifts in remote locations. The module’s flexible surface mounting also simplifies and speeds manufacturing improving total cost of ownership for integrators.
“The high-speed, high-bandwidth performance of the Cinterion PHS8 module is certainly superior to other solutions we evaluated, and its miniature size is unique on the market in allowing us to make a discreet, easy-to-wear device,” said Craig Swallow, Connexion2 CEO. “We value their leading-edge products such as PHS8 and the unparalleled engineering support that helps ensure our solutions get to market faster.”
“With Connexion2’s Identicom lone worker device, employees no longer need to locate or fumble with a cell phone if they need help in an emergency and companies can ensure the security of their employees,” said Norbert Muhrer, Cinterion CEO. “Together we are leading the way by bringing dedicated lone worker protection technology to the United States and other new markets.”
