World LP Gas Association: The Benefits of Using Autogas

PARIS - Thursday, June 21st 2012 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In a press release dated 12 June 2012, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization (WHO), has declared that diesel engine exhaust is carcinogenic to humans.

The World LP Gas Association (WLPGA) views this announcement as an opportunity to highlight the distinct benefits of Autogas - liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas) when used as a transport fuel – as a clean, safe, and versatile alternative automotive fuel to diesel.

Autogas is by far the most widely used and accepted alternative automotive fuel in use in the world today and global consumption has been rising rapidly in recent years. Autogas out-performs gasoline and diesel as well as some other alternative fuels in the majority of studies comparing environmental performance. Autogas emissions are especially low with respect to noxious pollutants. With respect to greenhouse-gas emissions, Autogas performs better than gasoline and, according to some studies, outperforms diesel, when emissions are measured on a full fuel-cycle basis and when the LP Gas is sourced mainly from natural gas processing plants.

The WLPGA is the authoritative voice of the global LP Gas industry representing all sectors of the industry and promotes the use of LP Gas as an exceptional energy globally and the use of Autogas as THE alternative fuel for vehicles.

For any questions on Autogas, or specifically on how to develop an Autogas market in any country, please contact us for more information and our industry experts will be able to help you.

NOTE TO EDITORS:

The WLPGA promotes the use of LP Gas worldwide to foster a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous world and aims to add value to the industry sector through driving premium demand for LP Gas, while also promoting compliance with good business and safety practices. The Association unites both private and public companies involved in the industry into one strong independent organisation; it develops long-term partnerships with international organisations and implements projects on both a global and local scale. The Association was established in 1987 and granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 1989.
