CG Flags off Its First Batch of 500 kV Transformers for State Owned Utility PT PLN

ME Newswire / Business Wire

CILEUNGSI-BOGOR, Indonesia - Thursday, September 19th 2013

Largest rating ever produced in Indonesia and the ASEAN region
Will reduce PT PLN’s dependence on importing such equipment

Avantha Group Company CG today flagged off its first batch of 500 kV Transformers from its state-of-the-art Transformer manufacturing facility located in the industrial area of Cileungsi, Bogor, Indonesia. The facility is equipped to design, manufacture and test Transformers up to 550 kV class locally in Indonesia. The largest rating of the Transformer manufactured here is 500MVA and 550kV class.

CG’s Indonesian manufacturing and testing facility will now be used to strengthen PT PLN’s transmission network thus making CG a leading name in the whole of the Asia-Pacific region. PT PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) is an Indonesian Government-owned sole electricity utility company.

In addition to the manufacturing capability, CG has invested more than 15 Million US Dollars to build a 550 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) Test Lab here that is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment mostly from Europe and America.

CG is the first company in South East Asia to design, manufacture and test 500kV Transformers locally. This is possible simply because the 550 kV technologies for this facility have been brought in from CG’s Belgian facility and the engineers from CG Indonesia have been trained in Belgium. They have the expertise in the areas of Design, Quality Assurance, Production and Testing of 550 kV EHV Transformers.

Speaking on the occasion of the flag off, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO & Managing Director, Mr Laurent Demortier said, “Today’s flag off is a matter of pride for CG and the electrical industry of Indonesia. This is the first delivery of our state-of-the-art 500 kV Power Transformer made in our newly expanded Plant located in Djakarta. CG has been manufacturing Power transformers in Indonesia since 1991. Plant has been expanded to produce 10,000 MVA per year. CG can design, engineer, install, maintain and manufacture a full range of power transformers in Indonesia.”

Our enhanced Indonesian facility makes us a preferred partner for investors of Power Plants in Indonesia to source all their transformer requirements locally. With this, CG hopes to eventually erase the dependence of Indonesia’s power utilities on imports of power and generator transformers.
