International Workshop Tackling QMS First Guiding Standard in Police Institutions


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, September 10th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, inaugurated the first international workshop to discuss the first guiding standard of the quality management system (ISO 9001:2008) for police institutions, reflecting international-best practices. .

The workshop was held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi with a vast participation of international and GCC Police commandments, the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA), the GCC Standardization Organization, and a number of officers and experts.

The Secretary General stated that such an achievement embodies the Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters’ vision to ensure that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi remains a community enjoying security and safety, by providing high-quality police services to citizens, residents and visitors of the emirate.

Addressing the gathering, Al Nuaimi assured that this standard is related to  the applications of police institutions in general; taking into account the structural differences and requirements of police institutions at the regional and international levels. “This standard provides a general framework for police institutions’ quality management system in terms of the system’s structure, the required types of documentation and training, as well as the responsibilities and powers, identification of processes and efficiency assessment mechanisms. This aims at achieving the police institution’s strategies and objectives in accordance with the quality concept,” he added.

Al Nuaimi also noted that this standard aims at fostering the quality concept in the police institution in many areas of development, particularly the provision of police services in an integrated way, supporting the bases of stability and investment of the local community in addition to meeting the needs of society.

He added that this achievement is a leading project on the international level, in terms of the nature of this standard and its field of application. “This achievement underscores the paramount efforts exerted by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ at all levels, to develop police work in the administrative and field levels to safeguard security and stability in society,” he continued.

In his speech on the occasion, Dr. Gary Cort, Chair of the International Technical Committee ISO / 176 TC for quality management, noted that this project is a leading global project, and a paradigm shift for Abu Dhabi Police in international platforms. It also is a living proof of the police leadership’s firm belief in the need to achieve excellence and leadership in all fields.

After the completion of the quality management system, the Abu Dhabi Police Strategy and Performance Development Department team developed a guiding standard for police work, within the quality management system (ISO 9001:2008) context. The team was also briefed on the similar global practices in multiple fields, such as health and education.

It is noteworthy that this standard was discussed and adopted nationally in the UAE and across the GCC countries. This accomplishment stems out of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s belief in the importance of excellence as an integral part of the strategic development process. It represents a main pillar for success, excellence and progress in all fields in order to elevate the United Arab Emirates’ name in international platforms.
