Al Ain Traffic Urges Drivers to Drive Safely During Inclement Weather Conditions

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, September 16th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate urged both citizens and residents to drive their vehicles cautiously during bad weather in the city to avoid accidents.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section, urged drivers to observe traffic rules, drive prudently during rainy weather, leave a safety distance between vehicles, and to stop their cars on the side of the road during high winds, torrential rain, hailstorm and dust-storms in order to avoid traffic accidents.

He encouraged motorists to check the weather forecast before travelling or commuting from one city to another to avoid driving during inclement weather. He further emphasized to motorists to choose the right time to travel especially with unpredictable weather changes in different regions in the country.

Concluding, he called upon motorists to reduce their speed, adhere to speed limits on internal and external roads, and to drive slowly on turns and in tunnels due to the possibility of large pools of collected water. He also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainy weather because the friction between the road surface and tires is greatly decreased when the roads are wet. Damp roads mean that cars require longer distances in order to come to a complete stop without skidding.

Major Al Hemairi urged drivers to prepare for the winter months by inspecting the vehicle’s tires and wiper blades, in addition to any other factor related to road safety; he also advised motorists to check weather conditions on the roads.
