Significant Decline in Banking Customer Theft Cases
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, August 7th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
Major
General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police
Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, confirmed a significant decrease in the
number of cases of theft against banking customers; indicators depict a
downward trend over recent months.
He attributed this decline to
the continuous support provided by the leadership to root out disturbing
criminal activity as well as growing public awareness and the
decreasing level of shyness in the community to call the police and
report criminal activity. This developing positive attitude towards the
police has led to the arrest of perpetrators exposing their misdeeds.
“The
Ministry of Interior adopted a comprehensive modernization policy by
equipping its police stations with modern buildings and employing women
staff to work around-the-clock. Additionally, the ministry provides a
modern and comfortable atmosphere for receiving the public and takes the
needs of the various community segments including disabled people into
account. These efforts have resulted in the changes regarding the
typical image of the police in the minds of some people that view police
stations as primarily a place for criminals and felons,” noted Major
General Al Menhali.
On the same note, Al Menhali emphasized the
importance of reporting any suspicious act or attack against any of the
citizens as immediate notification of such crimes definitely contributes
to the arrest of offenders and the return of stolen items to its
rightful owner. Furthermore, he lauded the courage of the young Emirati
woman who recently fell victim to an armed robbery near a bank and
immediately reported the crime. He also underscored the police's
determination to ensure that all the community facilities are secure and
safe, in recognition of the unlimited support and trust provided by
community members to the policing entities.
Al Menhali warned
each and every person thinking of committing a robbery or an attack in
an attempt to spoil the joy of Eid, to remain in his hideout until his
arrest, as it is only a matter of time.
Major General Al Menhali
highlighted that the public interaction with the police communication
channels, whether via telephone service to receive information or
security awareness messages via the web and other media confirms that
the country and the community have entered the modernization era.
