DP World Marks EID-AL-FITR by Distributing Gifts to DHOW Crews at AL Hamriya Port

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Monday, August 29th 2011 [ME NewsWire]

In keeping with the spirit of Eid-Al-Fitr and reaffirming its support to local communities, DPWorld, UAE Region has distributed gift packages to dhowcrew members working at Al Hamriya Port.

The charitable gesture, a part of the company’s annual CSR activities for the Holy Month of Ramadan, involved distribution of gift packs containing clothing, stationery and other essentials, to crew members on board the traditional wooden ships.

DP World, UAE Region officials and employees from the Human Resources Department volunteered to put together the parcels and personally hand out the gifts to 200 dhow crew members at the wharf.

Speaking about the initiative, Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director UAE Region said:

“The Holy Month provides DP World and its employees with an excellent opportunity to bond and promote the spirit of social solidarity. As the region’s largest port operator, we always seek to establish stronger ties with the workers at our terminals and with the local community. Eid El Fitr is a special and joyous occasion for everyone, and with these gifts we extend our appreciation and goodwill to the hardworking crew at Al Hamriya Port.”

Al Hamriya plays a key role in facilitating non-containerised cargo movements between Dubai and countries in the Gulf, South Asia and East Africa. In addition, the port also contributes to the local fishing industry. Recently, DP World, UAE Region has started work upgrading Al Hamriya Port and modernising its facilities to 21st century standards that will provide sustained value to its clients.
