Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Monday, August 18th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has
launched its first education campaign to acquaint staff members with the
concepts of combating human trafficking on the local and international
levels. The campaign is carried out in cooperation with the various
police departments in the country.
The department kicked off the
first in a series of courses on the subject on Sunday at the
Comprehensive Police Stations Department of Al Ain Police Directorate;
and will continue until August 21st. Similar courses will take place
at the Comprehensive Police Stations Department of the Capital Police
Directorate and Peripheral Regions Directorate between August 24 and 28
2014, and at the Comprehensive Police Stations Department of the
Western Region Police Directorate between August 31 and September 4.
Colonel
Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID), noted that such courses embody Abu Dhabi Police GHQ's
keenness to raise awareness of staff members on the various procedures
and methods of prevention against human trafficking.
Elaborating
on the subject, he said, "The course aims at highlighting crimes related
to human trafficking and human organs trade. It is also designed to
outline the UAE's instrumental role in solving these crimes; the
operational procedures; as well as local and international statistics on
human trafficking. It also sheds light on the government's efforts in
combating human trafficking, and the relevant legislations enacted for
this purpose, notably the Federal Law 51/2006 on Combating Human
Trafficking Crimes."
Colonel Borshid cited the cooperation
between the Human Rights Department at the General Secretariat of the
Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and the
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in qualifying local cadres of
officers from the Anti-human Trafficking Section, and providing them
with necessary training in the UAE and abroad in order to deliver
speeches during the course alongside international experts.
For
his part, Major Ali Mohamed Al Niyadi, Chief of Anti-human Trafficking
Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), added that the
course’s program focuses on defining human trafficking, its various
forms and methods; shedding light on international laws, legislations
and international conventions and policies to prevent and combat human
trafficking. In conclusion, he said, "What marks off these courses is
the fact that they are being held at the Comprehensive Police Stations,
with a view to target the largest segment of police and security
members, who are the first responders to criminal notifications of
human trafficking cases."
