Precautionary Measures to Counter the Effects of Heavy Rainfall in Fujairah Discussed


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, March 17th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

In response to the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the leadership of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT) discussed ways to cope with the effects of heavy rainfall, and risks to the east coast, in addition to the evacuation and shelter plans with the relevant authorities in Fujairah. The attendees also discussed creating puddles for rainwater, and ways to provide medical care to people in the areas affected by chronic diseases when necessary.

The meeting, held at the Fujairah Police GHQ, was attended by representatives from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, the Fujairah Police GHQ, the Eastern Region Police Department and the Civil Defense Department in the Eastern Region.

Colonel Mohammed Rashid Bin Naya, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, said that the current situation is reassuring, and that the current procedures are precautionary. Bin Naya also stressed the proper coordination between the various relevant police leaderships at the state level, praising the efforts of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT), which is known for its previous rescue operations executed in accordance with the best international standards in such circumstances. In conclusion, he emphasized that the preparations are underway to help face any future incidents and their consequences.

Attending the meeting were, Colonel Ali Obeid Al Tunaiji, Director General of Fujairah Civil Defense Department; Colonel Hamid Mohammad Al Yamahi, Director General of the Operations Room at Fujairah Police; Lieutenant Colonel Ali Rashid, Head of the Civil Defense Department in the Eastern Region; Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Mohammed, Representative of the Eastern Region Police Department; Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Dhanhani, Director of Operations at the Fujairah Police; Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT); Major Ahmed Al Kindi; Deputy Commander of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT); Major Adel Al Sammri, Deputy Commander of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT) for the Security and Safety Affairs; and First Lieutenant Saud Al Farsi; a member of the team’s engineering group.
