ADP Organizes First Military-Style Food Forum

The Procurement and Warehouses Department, in collaboration with the Training Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and Emirates Sky Travel LLC, organized the first on Military-Style Food Forum at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning.

Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department, delivered a speech at the meeting’s inaugural event. He reasserted the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s commitment to adopting cultural, social, health policies that help to enhance awareness levels and the promotion of knowledge.

Brigadier Al Nuaimi also said: “The first Military-Style Food Forum reminds us of the famous proverb: ‘A sound mind in a sound body’.” He explained that a lot of scientific research has proved that regular exercising can replace medicine; as it reduces the chances of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

Brigadier Al Nuaimi added: “We hope that this forum achieves our aspirations. We have felt the importance of educating Abu Dhabi Police’s staff members on healthy practices and eating habits, which suit the nature of the training and tasks assigned to them.”

Brigadier Al Nuaimi pointed out that sharing multiple and various perspectives on the issue helps in achieving important results. Based on this belief, Abu Dhabi Police has been keen to consult food experts and specialists to provide a summary of their experiences and their research, so as to reach the vision and the development of standards and best practices in this area.

    The forum’s agenda included four papers presented by expert nutritionists. Dr. Rasheed Al Hammadi, Professor, Anatomy and Neural Cell Biology at United Arab Emirates University

 “UAEU” presented a paper titled “Food and Human Body.” He gave a scientific overview of the human body digestive system organs, the gastrointestinal tract, tissues, and cells that are related to the eating, and digestive (breaking down) processes of food molecules. He elaborated on the importance of a balanced diet, which includes sufficient amounts of the essential nutrients that are in accordance with a person’s age, career, and environment. This is done in order to maintain a healthy digestive system.

Dr. Al Hammadi also cautioned against unhealthy unbalanced diet as it causes serious damage to the digestive system. Additionally, Dr. Al Hammadi stressed the importance of practicing sports, as it strengthens muscles and reduces body fat.

“Food-Related Risks and Effects” was the title of the second paper presented by Dr. Fadi Al Natour, Agriculture Risk Lead analyst at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. He stressed the importance of maintaining the safety of food to ensure the consumer’s health and protection against foodborne diseases. He also explained in detail the main food pollutants and the diseases they may transmit. Additionally, he stressed the importance of providing safe and quality food to people in general, particularly military personnel.

The third paper tackled the food system under the title “Military-Style Food” presented by Professor Nada Zuhair, Head of Community Nutrition Department at Tawam Hospital, Al Ain. She presented a strategic nutrition plan for military personnel and the standards that must be adopted. Additionally, she elaborated on the role of healthy food in providing high levels of fitness for military staff that will be positively reflected in their performance.

The final paper tackled the topic “History of Nutrition”, presented by Hassa Al Bloushi, Nutritionist at the Procurement and Warehouses Department at Abu Dhabi Police. She explained that the human body, plants, and animals are shaped by the surrounding environment nutrients. The human body loses some of these nutrients while growing, working, thinking, and exerting efforts; cells and tissues are either damaged or consumed during the biological processes. Therefore, the human body is required to compensate the loss of these nutrients with food.

Al Bloushi also explained that police staff members play an essential role in society and fulfill multiple tasks. For this reason, police personnel must have a solid physical structure; it is imperatively important for them to take extra care of their diet, which should follow safe health and nutrition standards.

Al Bloushi also indicated that the “First Military-Style food Forum” focuses on developing food-specific concepts, with a view to set up a dietary pattern based on special standards. This can be achieved through a number of studies to determine the proper dietary style, to prepare this important category of society, the military personnel, for their future military tasks, advanced training, in fulfilling their assigned duties.

Towards the end of the “First Military-Style Food Forum”, Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department at Abu Dhabi Police honored the attendees and presented commemorative shields and commemorative gifts.

The meeting was attended by Colonel Waleed Al Shamsi, Director of Police Schools Department, in addition to a large number of officers and civil staff members from various departments at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. Additionally, a large number of recruits from the Police College and Civil Defense Academy attended the event, alongside the female recruits from the Police Schools.
