Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, August 16th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
According
to the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police
Traffic and Patrols Directorate, a total of 76 driving licenses were
withdrawn in Al Ain last July of drivers who violated the traffic
regulations. Two other licenses were canceled.
Major Salah
Abdullah Al Hemairi, Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section, indicated
that holders of the withdrawn driving licenses had exceeded the
cumulative number of 24 demerit black traffic points. Moreover, he
explained that the cumulative allowed 24 or 12 traffic points limit is
reached when motorists or truck drivers commit multiple traffic-related
offences, by either wrongly overtaking other vehicles, racing
dangerously on the road or failing to stop when involved in an accident
that leads to injuries.
Al Hemairi added that all traffic-related
offences are punishable by the law, and withdrawing driving licenses
aims at preventing reckless offenders from posing a risk to themselves
and other road users for a short period of time. “For a first offence, a
license is withdrawn for a period of three months, six months in the
second instance, then for a year and then it may be cancelled if a
fourth offence occurs,” he noted.
Concluding, Major Salah
Abdullah Al Hemairi urged truck drivers to abide by traffic laws,
particularly the legal speed limits on the roads. He emphasized that
non-adherence t to the speed limits on roads is one of the major causes
of traffic offenses; wishing safety to all.
