Dubai,United Arab Emirates - Monday, May 21st 2012 [ME NewsWire]
eHosting DataFort (eHDF), the region’s leading managed IT services provider and a member of TECOM Investments, today announced it is offering disaster recovery (DR) facilities to Atlantis The Palm in Dubai, the iconic property managed by the hospitality conglomerate Kerzner International.
Due to the hotel’s location on the Palm and close proximity to the sea, the Atlantis IT department foresaw a vulnerability of its servers to water-related calamities. In addition, the on-going construction activities in the neighbouring area also posed a threat to fibre services coming into the Palm. The possibility of a single point of failure and eventual disconnection of services were identified as top risks. It, therefore, became a key priority for the IT department to look for an external service provider that could provide a disaster recovery site on the main land, in order to ensure 24/7 connectivity.
Following a six-month selection process, eHDF was selected as a partner of choice for its ability to meet the project’s location needs and provide a robust and resilient infrastructure.
The leading hotel required eHosting DataFort to comply with stringent criteria so as to maintain the property’s round-the-clock operations in the eventuality of a disaster.
Yasser Zeineldin, CEO at eHosting DataFort, said: “In the hospitality industry today, technology plays a critical role in a guest’s engagement with the hotel. A significant amount of customer requests areaddressed online or via automated systems that handle almost every aspect of a guest’s engagement with the hotel. This increases the reliance on a stable IT infrastructure to enhance the overall experience at the property.
“The implementation was essential for Atlantis The Palm to ensure its business runs smoothly without any disruption. The investment in a secondary disaster recovery site will help the hospitality group stabilise its foothold in the country and retain its present relationships with clients.”
Joe Tesfai, Senior Vice-President – IT, Atlantis The Palm, said: “The hospitality business is about selling luxury experiences. Technology is, therefore, not our core business. However, with the property’s dependence on technology for improving guests’ stay, IT has always remained a priority for the steering committee and the board at Atlantis The Palm, given its range of online initiatives that drive and help deliver revenues.
“It was important that we find a credible, long-term and financially sound partner that could meet our IT requirements. eHosting DataFort proved its efficiency in providing data centre services to replicate the nerve centre of our IT systems. More importantly, their response and professionalism in handling our requirements were crucial in influencing our choice for this project.”
Real time replication, duplication, backup and full mirroring were among the services provided to Atlantis The Palm. Data movement was conducted with the use of SnapMirror, a software used to back up and replicate between sites. eHDF has also installed alerts and automation tools that notify them of any change in temperature or state of the drives.
eHosting DataFort has established itself as a market leader in the field of hosting and Managed IT services with its state-of-the-art data centres, resilient and scalable infrastructure and round-the-clock managed operations. The company has been recognized year-on-year as the ‘Best Managed Service Provider of the Year’ in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as Best Colocation Facility in 2010 and 2011.

Glad that the Palm is investing in preventative disaster recovery services . If you are in a zone where the unexpected could happen, there is no point in taking that chance. Losing valuable data could take months to get back, costing more money than what the data recovery program would have offered. I always wondered if Dubai had any flood type issues since they had so many man made islands created there. Hopefully nothing happens to their infrastructure, considering it is some of the best in the world.
