ADP Concludes Crime Prevention Conference

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, February 19th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Department of Social Support Centers of Abu Dhabi Police, concluded the second Crime Prevention Conference at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi which took place under the slogan “The Family…Prevention and Protection.”

The conference recommended increasing cooperation to execute the national strategy for maternity and childhood, by preparing and developing relevant laws and legislations, raising awareness among the public and defining and providing necessary services.

The conference called upon all institutions working under the national strategy, to reconsider improving the work conditions for mothers with children under 3 years old. Institutions were urged to review the laws that regulate human resources, taking into consideration part time, flexible working hours (adjustable), special leaves (in case the mother is busy with  child-related appointments), high-quality children’s day care, maternity leaves and paternity leaves.

The recommendations of the conference highlighted the importance of cooperation and concerted efforts among all institutions in order to prepare an educational program targeting those that are about to get married, under the national strategy. Such programs would include, to name a few, programs on financial management, in addition to continuous support to new mothers through domestic visits made by child-care specialists. The conference also suggested that pre-marriage and financial management skills should be integrated into school curriculums, and that domestic visits should be implemented during the post-marriage period. The conference also suggested that new mothers should be provided with long-term domestic visits with the assistance of experienced specialists.

Furthermore, the conference called upon institutions and parents to invest in early childhood education and to include early education in the national strategy. It also called for establishing day care and early education programs, by training and utilizing early childhood education specialists and providing day care centers and kindergartens for working mothers.

Additionally, the conference recommendations urged the institutions to develop a statistical national database within the national strategy for maternity and childhood, in cooperation with national universities, taking into consideration the need for reliable national statistics on maternity and early childhood education.

In a statement made on the occasion of the conference, Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the importance of investment in maternity and childhood and the usage of the ideal means to raise children and protect them against all struggles from early on.
