Abu Dhabi Police Launches Three Touristic Platforms at Abu Dhabi Airport and Zayed Port

Spreading Awareness among Visitors via Screens and Leaflets

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, February 23rd 2014

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has launched three touristic platforms, two of which are in the arrivals building at the Abu Dhabi International Airport (new) and a third at the Zayed Port. Another platform will soon be introduced at the Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi, in order to educate the visitors about the touristic culture and traditions of the Emirati people.

The platforms introduce tourists to the services offered by Abu Dhabi Police, and highlight their role in promoting tourism through a screen display. This initiative has been praised by the audience and has attracted many travelers visiting the UAE. The platforms offer police-related information, as well as touristic information. They portray the UAE as a secure country that is convenient enough for tourism and family vacations. It also identifies the landmarks of Abu Dhabi that are ideal for spending recreational holidays and shows the visitors the activities and events taking place countrywide.

Tourists Security

Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, revealed that Abu Dhabi Police pays special attention to tourism as part of the developmental efforts paid to improve the tourism police, and improve the security services. The police endeavors aim to accommodate tourists with all means, and ensure they have enjoyable experiences, while they maintain social security. Al Menhali added: “Abu Dhabi Police seeks to maintain security for tourists, starting from the moment they arrive until the moment they depart, as it looks towards participating in promoting Abu Dhabi as a favorite destination for individuals and families alike.” The Major General identified the touristic, entertainment and cultural aspects of the Emirate, as well as the safety of the location attained through cooperation with the concerned authorities.

Al Menhali stressed that the Tourism Police Department is a Criminal Investigation Department unit and is a strong, specialized unit that is relied on by the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi. He based this idea on the unit’s eligibility to perform its tasks professionally, and safeguard national identity in line with a sense of duty, belonging, love and loyalty to the country. “The international reputation of Abu Dhabi Police is a result of the absolute care of the citizens, tourists and services offered to them on the local, regional, and international levels.”

Upgrading Services

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, said: “Visitors and residents affirm the high professionalism and competency of the Tourism Police officers, along with the humanitarian and civilized manners with which they handle touristic activities and events. The goal is to upgrade the level of services and promote the development of tourism concepts.”

Borshid added that the police leadership has effortlessly implemented Abu Dhabi Police’s vision, mission and values, and have clearly identified the strategic goals in an integral manner reflected in the real world and it enhanced the bases of security and safety in the UAE.

Colonel Borshid added: “Abu Dhabi is rich with ancient and historical destinations, usually explored by tourists who seek entertainment, relaxation and beauty. Driven by a sense of national pride, we take part and join the police in fulfilling its mission and role to protect the country and the visitors and preserve the properties and the heritage. Thus, the existence of the Tourism Police Department was a must to ensure the security of tourists and provide them with necessary services and facilitators, in collaboration with other concerned authorities. The department received complaints and comments and resolved them professionally, in accordance with laws adaptable to the needs of the present day.”

He highlighted the unit’s commitment towards executing the directives of the Higher Leadership, which aim to improve the standard of police work, and ensure the continuity of peace and security within Abu Dhabi’s society through high quality services provided to locals, residents and tourists alike.

Borshid valued the efforts made by Abu Dhabi International Airport and Zayed Port for providing areas that facilitated the activation of the awareness platforms. “It represents a positive step towards offering services for tourists and enhances the ability to achieve Abu Dhabi’s goals and the strategic vision.”

Awareness Brochures

As for the “Touristic Platforms” launched at the Abu Dhabi International Airport and Zayed Port, Lieutenant Colonel Muzyad Al Utaibi, Chief of the Tourism Police Section at the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “The platforms represent a television screen that spreads awareness among tourists and educates them about the efforts, services and roles provided by Abu Dhabi Police on the touristic level. It also provides the Tourism Police Department’s contact numbers.”

Al Utaibi added that there are three active touristic platforms; two of which are in the arrivals building at the Abu Dhabi International Airport (new) and a third at Zayed Port, targeting travelers who arrive on cruise ships. He revealed that the “Section” intends to launch another platform at Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi, in order to create links, cooperate with the tourists, induce a sense of security, eliminate possible incidents and introduce preventive solutions and methods of communication.

He mentioned that one could find shelves loaded with awareness leaflets and brochures available in different languages at each of the platforms. Tourists may keep these to become aware of the general guidelines including public morals, uncivilized and illegal behaviors and things that are to be expected at touristic locations. Al Utaibi declared that these tourist guides address a number of issues, as there are leaflets titled (Going to the beach), (Tourists guidelines), and (Using public transportation), in addition to other awareness brochures.

He confirmed the Tourism Police are ready to communicate with tourists who speak different languages, and are ready to provide them with necessary instructions, advice and information. He pointed out that they try their best to create a convenient touristic environment by ensuring security in a way that reflects the prosperous image of the country.

The Chief of the Tourism Police Section urged people to never hesitate to ask for help from the tourism police officers in cases of emergency, stressing their readiness to act and provide services as quickly as possible, in a way that reflects the bright image of the country.
