The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters participated in the third edition of Qasr Al Hosn Festival, which is the symbolic birthplace of the capital of the UAE, and a witness to Abu Dhabi’s evolution and spectacular transformation, which has given the UAE its unique identity.

Colonel Saif Al Shamesi, Chief of the Cultural and Social Activities Section of the Clubs and Sports Activities Department, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to regularly participate in Qasr Al Hosn Festival since 2013, the first year of the festival, during which the Abu Dhabi Police commemorate the founding of the force in 1957.

He added: “Since the inauguration of the Qasr Al Hosn Festival, the Abu Dhabi Police, which first had a police station at the Qasr in 1957, sets up a replica of that station north of the Qasr al Hosn, where the station was originally located. Old photographs were displayed at the station, showcasing the history and evolution of the police force, while A police unit dressed in the old style uniform and logo showed off in daily rounds during the festival, to acquaint the public with the duties and tasks entrusted to the police in the old days.”

Colonel Al Shamesi, referred to the first-time contribution of the Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs Department in Al Ain at the festival’s third edition.“The department showcased old documents and passports that were used before the establishment of the United Arab Emirates on the 2nd of December 1971. An old photographs exhibition was also held inside the old police station replica, shedding the light on the different phases of building, establishment, development and excellence. The Special Tasks Department also participated with various events and shows at the festival, along with the Police Schools Department and the Police College,” he said.

Adding further, Colonel Al Shamesi stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to participate in various national and traditional events, with the aim of enhancing communication and interaction with the various society segments and individuals and familiarizing them with the achievements of Abu Dhabi Police through heritage festivals and local and international events, to foster direct communication and enhance mutual trust and cooperation with the community. He added that the police’s participation reflects the history and magnanimity of the UAE heritage among nations.

Additionally, Colonel Al Shamesi said that the festival has drawn in visitors of all ages and nationalities, who expressed admiration for Abu Dhabi Police’s respect for the history and the memories of the force’s establishment, and their keenness to reminisce the past by bringing back to life the old style uniforms and patrol cars.

It is worth mentioning that the first Abu Dhabi Police unit was established in 1957; its duties were limited to protecting some sites and locations including the Qasr al Hosn, markets, and banks. Abu Dhabi Police was also responsible for guarding the ships and vessels that used to sail from neighboring countries. In 1957, Abu Dhabi Police only had 150 officers. It was called the “Police Department” and was located north of the Qasr al Hosn.
