DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, April 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Two
of Dubai’s prominent shopping and leisure destinations, Arabian Center
and Lamcy Plaza, marked Earth Hour 2014 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on
Saturday, March 29, by switching off all non-essential external and
internal lighting and appliances. However, the mall was spectacularly
awash with the brilliant luminescence of hundreds of eco-friendly
glow-in-the-dark sticks.
On the occasion, Mr. Tim Jones, COO,
Arabian Center and Lamcy Plaza, said, “Both malls owned and managed by
the Lals Group were supporting the global initiative to raise awareness
on energy conservation and climate change. We thank our patrons for
joining us at the mall to express their solidarity in an eco-friendly
and breath-taking manner.
“Our participation in the Earth Hour is
to express our unstinted support to Dubai Government’s efforts for
protecting the environment, promoting sustainable development in the
Emirate and strengthening the international standing of Dubai in the
field of environmental sustainability,” he added.
“Over the past
years, by marking Earth Hour, we have been able to strengthen awareness
on the need to protect our environment and conserve our resources. For
us, the relevance of Earth Hour is not limited to the single hour when
we switch off all unnecessary lights and electrical appliances. We
believe that the one hour of energy use efficiency that Earth Hour
promotes will encourage people to make it an intrinsic part of their
lifestyle throughout the year.” Mr. Jones stressed.
