UAE Search and Rescue Team Concludes Joint Exercise with its Jordanian Counterpart

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, October 30th 2013

The UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT) concluded the joint drill with the Jordanian Search and Rescue Team. The drill, which took place from 21 to 24 October, is the largest and first-of-its-kind in the Middle East to deal with natural disasters, and was conducted under the direct supervision of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Head of UAESRT indicated that the exercise was held at the Civil Defense Academy’s headquarters in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It began at 4:00 pm on Sunday the 20th of October and concluded on Wednesday 24th of October, 72 hours later.

He added: “The drill was meant to measure the field abilities of both teams in addition to their responsiveness in cases of major disasters. This comes in line with the requirements set by the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) with respect to the methodology for international response coordination in the aftermath   of natural disasters.

Lt. General Talal Abdullah Al Kofahi, Director General of the Jordanian Civil Defense, attended the joint exercise. He expressed his admiration for the modern techniques and efficient field abilities of the UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT), praising the team’s fast responsiveness in cases of emergency around the world.

Lt. Colonel Al Ansari valued the direct facilities provided by the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces’ office and the Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, Air Force Commander. He also praised the strategic cooperation and partnership with the logistics firm “Agility”, which contributed to the success of the drill according to expectations.

The UAE Search and Rescue Team (UAESRT) returned home via Abu Dhabi Airport following the huge success of the joint exercise with the Jordanian team.  This aims to increase the training abilities and enhance expertise in work fields according to international-best developed standards.
