Air Patrols Detect 100 Traffic Law Violations in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 27th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic Air Patrols, which are operated to monitor the movement of traffic in cooperation with the Air Wing Section in Abu Dhabi Police, detected 100 traffic law violations. These violations occurred on internal and external roads of the emirate of Abu Dhabi from the 12th – 31st of last September.

The Traffic Air Patrols exert efforts to eliminate causes of traffic accidents and subsequent severe injuries and deaths.

Major Mohsen Bakheit Al Menhali, Chief of the External Roads Traffic Section in the External Roads Traffic Department, said that the air-detected violations included overtaking by using the shoulder of the road, not leaving a sufficient distance, and not remaining in the traffic lane. He pointed out that the Air Patrols have been equipped to monitor, take footage of violators, and issue tickets against them; they can also identify areas of traffic congestion to help the traffic ground patrols arrive quickly to those particular locales to ensure seamless movement.

He stated that the air patrols follow vehicles that do not have number plates, or those with fake numbers. The air patrol then communicates with the traffic patrols to seize those vehicles. Moreover, the air patrols conduct day and night-time patrols to monitor gathering places of reckless youths and take footage of them in order to detain those who violate the law. The purpose of the patrols is to monitor their safety. This monitoring can also reduce the hazards that result from dangerous vehicle stunts and the traffic accidents that may lead to injuries or deaths. Major Al Menhali further noted that these stunts may harm other road users as well.

He warned the youths who perform such dangerous stunts with cars and motorcycles and practice drifting that they are being monitored by the air patrols and the patrols of civil traffic investigation on various roads. Moreover, they will be subject to the pertaining laws and regulations; they will be detained and their vehicles and motorcycles will be seized. Their pending cases will then be referred to the relevant authorities for the necessary action to ensue.
