Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, October 29th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The 1st Pediatric Cardiology Meeting is to be held in conjunction with the Congress
Under
the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler
of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, and President of Dubai Health
Authority, the Emirates Cardiac Society is organizing the 4th Emirates
Cardiac Society Congress held under the theme “Heart Failure.” The
event, organized in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority and the
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, will be
attended by approximately 1,000 cardiac and artery physicians and
specialists from around the globe. The Congress coincides with the 1st
Pediatric Cardiology Meeting, both to be held at the InterContinental
Hotel, Dubai Festival City.
Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Chairman of
the Institute of Cardiac Sciences at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City,
President of the Emirates Cardiac Society and Congress Chairman,
highlighted the importance of the event as death by heart disease is the
number one killer surpassing road traffic accidents. He noted that the
3-day congress will discuss topics related to the latest developments in
fields of diagnosing and treating cardiac and vascular diseases, valve
stenosis, electrocardiography, cardiac arrhythmia, acute heart failure,
catheter via hand wrist, valve replacement via surgery or catheter,
atrial fibrillation, coronary arterial disease, smoking and its relation
to cardiac and vascular diseases, sonography, CT scans in cardiac
imaging, and heart surgeries. In addition, several workshops will be
held on heart assistive devices, along with a special workshop for
primary healthcare physicians.
Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali said that
the congress comprises of eight scientific sessions, each of which will
consist of five lectures during which participants will discuss and
share their experiences on the best ways to treat cardiac diseases. He
noted that the congress presents a valuable opportunity to exchange
ideas and gain practical experiences.
He mentioned that on
Wednesday, prior to the Congress, specialized workshops will be held at
the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center in Dubai
Healthcare City. The workshops will discuss electrocardiography readings
(for the cardiac nursing staff), echocardiography (for technicians),
cardiac electrophysiology, and coronary intervention in addition to
another workshop on smoking and its relation to cardiac diseases. This
workshop will also cover the means to help smokers quit with the
assistance of smoking cessation experts and units working under official
healthcare institutions in the UAE.
Dr. Fahad Baslaib,
Consultant Cardiologist and Head of Cardiology Department in Rashid
Hospital, said that the 1st Pediatric Cardiology Meeting will be held in
conjunction with the congress, referring to the participation of
pediatric cardiologists who will discuss cardiac congenital disorders
and how to diagnose and treat them. He noted that the paediatric
cardiology meeting is very important due to the high rates of cardiac
deformities in children and the lack of specialists in this field.
Dr.
Fahad stressed that the success of the previous three congresses
organized by the Emirates Cardiac Society through the
globally-integrated Association, Communication, and Event Management
Company (MCI) gave the event special importance among cardiologists. He
mentioned that the 4th congress will include a high number of the best
cardiologists coming from the USA and Europe, in addition to a large
number of Arab, GCC and Middle Eastern specialists.
A medical
exhibition will also be held in conjunction with the event in which 25
exhibitor companies specialized in medicines and cardiac medical
equipment will participate.
