Conclusion of Police Sports Association Tournament for Self-Defense Sports in Dubai

Held under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Seventh Self-Defense Tournament organized by the Police Sports Association that was lately held concluded its activities. Participants from the Abu Dhabi Police schools, the Dubai Police Academy, the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy and the Federal Police School in Sharjah took part in the tournament, which was held in cooperation with Dubai Police General Headquarters at the Dubai Police Academy.

The final day games were attended by Colonel Dr. Mohamed Butti Al Shamesi, Deputy Director of Dubai Police Academy; Colonel Khaled Shahil, Deputy Chairman of the Police Sports Association; Colonel Ahmed Hamdan Al Zayoudi, member of the Police Sports Association’s Board of Directors; Colonel Aref Al Rais, Acting Head of the Police Sports Association; and Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Hamidi, Chief of the Sports Activities Section.

The Dubai Police Academy team ranked first and obtained the General Excellence Trophy with 38 points, while the Police Sciences Academy came in second place with 26 points and the Federal Police School came third, with 22 points.

In the singles’ competitions, Al Ghalia Askar Al Karbi from Abu Dhabi Police was the first place winner at the Taekwondo Black Belts category for the under 54 kg weight class, while Murifa Ambar Al Mazroui came in second place. In the Black Belt category for the under 61 kg weight class, Sheikha Hassan from Abu Dhabi Police ranked first, followed by Maithaa Saeed and Khuloud Eid ranked second and third place respectively.

The Dubai Police team members achieved the top positions in the Black Belt for the weight class under 63 kg; Aref Abdul Razzaq ranked first and Wassel Darwish Ambar ranked second. Mohamed Abdul Kareem won first place and Saeed Bilal ranked second in the weight class 68 kg, while Hassan Bilal took first place and Mohamed Kazim came in second place for the 74 kg weight class. Faisal Ali ranked first and Ahmed Mohamed ranked second in the 80 kg weight class; while Nawaf Safar and Sayed Qassem ranked dirst and second respectively in the Black Belt category for the weight class over 80 kg.

In the Taekwondo Competition (for colleges and institutes), the results were as follows: in the under 54 kg weight class, the color belts category, Sultan Eissa Al Qassab from the Federal Police School, came in first place, and  Abdullah Abdulrahman Mohammed ranked second. In the under 58 kg weight class, Saud Ali Al Sukatri from the Federal Police School ranked first, and Rakan Mamdouh from the Dubai Police Academy ranked second. In the under 63 kg weight class, Khaled Abdulrahman from the Dubai Police Academy and Khaled Abdullah from the Federal Police School came in first and second place respectively. In the under 68 kg weight class, Saeed Ahmed from the Dubai Police Academy ranked first, followed by Mohammed Al Marri in second place. In the under 80 kg weight class, Musabbah Muhsen from the Federal Police School took the first position, followed by Ali Essam from Abu Dhabi Police Schools in second place. In the under 87 kg weight class, Ahmed Abdulrahim from the Dubai Police Academy and Omar Abdulaziz from the Abu Dhabi Police Schools came in first and second place respectively. And in the above 87 kg weight class, Rashed Ahmed from the Federal Police School ranked first, followed by Suleiman Rashid from the Abu Dhabi Police Schools in second place.

In the Karate competition (Kumite singles) open weight (black belt) for general headquarters and departments, the Dubai Police bagged the first and second positions: Mohammed Suleiman Darwish ranked first and Majid Eissa ranked second. In the under 60 kg weight class, (color belts) for academies, colleges and institutes, Mohammed Khamis from the Dubai Police Academy ranked first, followed by Naif Mohammed in second place. In the under 67 kg weight class (color belts) for academies and institutes, Hamad Adil from the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy took first place, and Mokhtar Mohammed from the Dubai Police Academy ranked second. In the under 75 kg weight class (color belts), Saif Mohammed Al Mazrouei ranked first, followed by Salim Ali from the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy in second place. In the under 84 kg weight class (color belts), Fares Mohammed Al Menhali from the Abu Dhabi Police Schools ranked first, while Ahmed Samih from the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy ranked second. In the above 84 kg weight class (color belts), Omar Butti from the Sharjah Police Science Academy  and Fawaz Ahmed from the Dubai Police Academy came in first and second place respectively.

Colonel Khaled Shahil, Deputy Chairman of the Police Sports Association, commended the success of the championship and the performance level of the participants, who demonstrated fair play and sportsmanship. He also praised the good organization and expressed his heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed efforts to ensure an outstanding event, and achieve the coveted goal.

He said that the Police Sports Association is pursuing diligent efforts to execute the sports calendar for this season with significant attention, wishing everyone the best of luck and success in their endeavors.
