ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, July 26th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
In
collaboration with the “Saeed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents”, the
Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate intensified its
traffic awareness efforts during the Holy month of Ramadan, as part of
the ADP’s campaign held under the slogan “Your Safety”. It also provided
safety tips and traffic-related educational programs that coincide with
the Holy Month of Ramadan, through the Traffic and Patrols
Directorate’s program to reduce traffic accidents on Facebook, Twitter,
and YouTube. Moreover, the Directorate provided field education and
awareness at the various locations where young people gather, and in
front of mosques, and malls, carried out by the traffic education
patrols to reduce all causes that lead to traffic accidents during the
Holy Month of Ramadan.
According
to Lt. Colonel Jamal Salim Al Ameri, Head of Public relations Section
at the ADP Traffic and Patrols Directorate, “The Directorate had
prepared a comprehensive traffic safety plan during the Holy Month of
Ramadan. The plan includes distributing special publications that
coincide with the Holy Month, and comprise religious prayers and traffic
advice tackling three key topics, namely; motorists; pedestrians; and
safety of vehicles. It also provides traffic advice and educational
documentaries about mosques, within the ADP Traffic and Patrols
Directorate’s program on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Moreover, the
Ramadan Traffic Awareness Program included contests organized for two
weeks on “Quran Radio” and “Emirates FM Radio”; a total of 20 winners
were awarded cash prizes presented by the “Saaed Society to Reduce
Traffic Accidents”.
Al Ameri also noted that the Ramadan
awareness programs aim at encouraging motorist to comply traffic laws,
reduce speeds, pay attention on roads, use seatbelts, avoid using
hand-held mobile phones while driving, and maintain a sufficient safe
distance between vehicles. The programs also called on motorists to
avoid blocking roads or exits and refrain from parking randomly in front
of mosques during Tarawih prayers.
Furthermore, Al Ameri
appealed to motorists to take advantage of the sublime meanings and
noble values of the Holy Month, by respecting the rights of other road
users. He called on them to, refrain from parking randomly in front of
mosques during Tarawih prayers; refrain from blocking exits and parking
entrances, or impede the movement of vehicles by parking close behind
them. He also stressed the need for road users to follow the traffic
police personnel’s instructions, especially in front of shopping malls
and commercial areas that witness traffic jams. Finally, he called on
them to choose the proper time for shopping to avoid traffic jams.
In
addition, Ameri emphasized the need to abide by traffic laws during the
Holy month, by reducing speeds, especially before the Maghrib prayers.
He warned motorists against running a red light, using a hand-held
mobile phone while driving; urging them to use their seatbelts, maintain
a sufficient safe distance between vehicles, and paying attention to
any surprises on the roads.
Concluding, he highlighted the risks
of over speeding before the Iftar time; pointing out that traffic
patrols from the Directorate will be patrolling the streets of Abu Dhabi
before the Maghrib call to prayer; carrying out their humanitarian
duty by handing out Iftar meals to motorists at traffic intersections
in Abu Dhabi. This initiative, he said, is carried out in coordination
with strategic partners working with the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and
patrols Directorate, to enhance traffic safety in the emirate of Abu
Dhabi.
