MoI Ramadan Councils to kick off on Tuesday

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, June 29th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior, will be launching the legal Ramadan Councils as of Tuesday, on the UAE level. These Councils complement the initiative that started in 2012 to host such councils, as an effort from the MoI to involve the UAE citizens and provide them with the opportunity to discuss the important topics of interest to the public.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior said that the Ramadan Councils are  an opportunity for governmental institutions to meet with citizens in purposeful national dialogue sessions, aimed at achieving excellence in the services they provide. The councils take place in a friendly atmosphere conducive to dialogue which allows UAE citizens to submit their proposals for the benefit of the country and their fellow citizens. They also aim to enhance the services provided to them in light of the progress and development that the UAE is witnessing on all levels.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Ghoul said: “Based on the police leadership’s directives, the UAE Vision 2021 has been chosen as the theme for this year’s Ramadan Councils under the slogan ‘2021… A Leadership Vision and Society Interaction’” He also stressed that the UAE Vision 2021 represents an integrated approach for the future envisioned by the UAE leadership to outline the Emirati character, including individuals, institutions, or the country. Lieutenant Colonel Al Ghoul said that choosing the UAE Vision 2021 as a theme for dialogue is an indication of the leadership’s approach on all levels, which believes in the importance of involving community members as essential partners to help the leadership perform its most vital duties, starting from the upbringing of children within the family down to protecting the nation and achieving its safety and security.

Dr. Al Ghoul said that a total of 35 councils will be held during the Holy Month of Ramadan, out of which four will be assigned to discuss the UAE Vision’s four elements (United in Responsibility; United in Destiny; United in Knowledge; United in Prosperity), within each emirate. A women’s council will also be organized in each emirate in order to discuss different topics under the UAE Vision.

The United in Responsibility theme includes 7 topics: ‘confident and socially-responsible Emiratis’; ‘our responsibilities towards our country’; ‘role of family in nurturing exceptional leaders’; ‘social security net’; ‘Khalifa: Completing the journey’; ‘domestic workers: necessity and dangers’; in addition to ‘youth and stimulants’. These topics will be discussed during the Ramadan Councils, with a view to instill ambition and a sense of responsibility in the spirit of Emiratis and urge them to build their future with confidence, and efficiently take part in an increasingly developing social and economic environment. Such discussions also aim to produce a cohesive society that is based on family, social cohesion, moderate Islamic values and authentic national heritage.

The second theme, United in Destiny also includes seven topics, namely; ‘Zayed; the dream’; ‘Mohammed bin Rashid: triumph, victory and love’; ‘the UAE: model of rights’; ‘our motto: the home is united’; ‘our overseas image’; ‘patriotism: a collective responsibility’; and the ‘national service is an honor’. These topics are intended to engage people to discuss the common destiny that binds all those who live under the stewardship and protection of a resilient and integrated Federation, which protects Emiratis and ensures balanced development throughout its territory, so as to allow the UAE to continue to grow as a strong and influential nation.

The Ramadan Councils will also tackle seven different topics that include the ‘Sustainable Energy Culture’; ‘Smart Government: a luxury or necessity’; ‘development of Emirati skills’; ‘social media: impact and vulnerability’; ‘knowledge transfer and management’. These topics fall under the third theme United in knowledge, which includes the basic requirements needed to establish a diversified and flexible knowledge-based economy, powered by skilled Emiratis and strengthened by world-class talent to ensure long-term prosperity for the UAE.

The fourth theme, United in prosperity, promotes the image of the UAE people as individuals that enjoy the highest living standards, long and healthy lives, first-rate education and well-rounded lifestyles guaranteed by excellent public services and recreational social and cultural activities, within a safe and rich natural environment. Under this theme, numerous topics will be discussed, related to the ‘modern infrastructure’; ‘prosperity through creativity’; ‘the UAE, a beacon of culture’; ‘drugs, a scourge that ruins lives’; ‘health consequences of social behavior’; ‘tolerance, a national culture’; and ‘our environmental behavior’.

The women’s councils will be tackling the four fundamental themes of the UAE Vision 2021, and will include seven topics, namely; ‘women and leadership support’; ‘education from indoctrination down to creative thinking’; ‘the UAE between modernity and heritage’; ‘education between knowledge and experience’; ‘martyrs of duty will not be forgotten’; ‘financial education for UAE families’; and ‘the UAE culture and domestic workers’.
