ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 21st 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The
Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center carried out an awareness
campaign reaching 325 students at Aldar Academies in Al Bateen. The
campaign focused on child protection against transportation risks. The
awareness campaign was delivered in both in Arabic and English.
The
Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, the Security
Media Department at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office, and the Saaed Society to
reduce traffic accidents took part in organizing the campaign.
Lieutenant
Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al-Shammari, Director of the Ministry of
Interior’s Child Protection Center, said: “Students were introduced to
the center’s vision and methods in educating the public and preparing
recommendations for policies and legislations for child protection and
safety against transportation and building risks and other risks in
general.”
The lecture, delivered via smart multimedia, shed light
on various risks that children encounter on streets and while in
vehicles. Participants from the police presented a number of films and
recounted real stories that they have encountered on the Abu Dhabi
roads, in order to highlight the consequences of carelessness when
inside a vehicle or on the road.
Lieutenant Colonel Al-Shammari
said: “We focused on the risks of failing to wear seatbelts, including
while in the school bus, and the importance of using a car seat for
small children. The lecture also warned against the risks of using
mobile phones to text while driving, and introduced the best ways to
guarantee safety while crossing roads by only traversing at designated
areas for pedestrians.”
Students expressed their admiration to
see the famous Falcon Bike used by the Abu Dhabi Police to communicate
with the public and to interact and build partnerships with all
community members.
Tamra Bradbury, Principal of Al Bateen
Secondary School, said: “We are extremely pleased to be the first school
to be chosen by the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center to
introduce us to its work, which is in line with our school’s efforts to
prioritize the health and safety of our students. The lecture delivered a
message that called for attention and responsibility when we are on the
roads or near them.”
The center’s disciplines include educating
the public and preparing recommendations relating to establishing
policies and legislations for child protection and safety issues.
