ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 21st 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The
Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has distributed nearly 1,200 iftar meals to road
users in the Western Region since the first day of the holy month of
Ramadan. Meals were distributed shortly before the maghrib (sunset) call
to prayer at industrial areas, petrol stations, and markets.
The
Abu Dhabi Police GHQ urged road users to exercise patience while
driving during Ramadan and especially near the iftar time; the police
encouraged motorists to not speed to arrive at the time of iftar. Such
behavior could result in violations and accidents that put drivers and
road users at risk.
Lt. Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Head of
Department of Community Police, said that distributing iftar meals is an
initiative that has been practiced consistently by Abu Dhabi Police
every year during the month of Ramadan. It is implemented by foot
patrols of the Community Police Department along with other police
patrols. This encourages social cohesion, which is considered a feature
of the UAE society.
Captain Maktoum Saeed Al Mazroui, Chief of
Community Police Affairs Department in the Western Region, said that
distributing iftar meals comes under the “Salamtak” (your safety)
initiative, which was launched by Abu Dhabi Police. The initiative
includes the distribution of 30,000 iftar meals to motorists in the
emirate of Abu Dhabi and for those arriving and departing from border
points. The program is in cooperation with the endowments of the late
Abduljalil Al Fahim and his family and Al Fo’a Company for Dates at Al
Sad. He noted that the community police in the Western Region have
received 10,000 iftar meals since the beginning of Ramadan, which are
being distributed currently. This is to enhance partnership with all
sectors of the local community, whether governmental or individuals of
society; it is also carried out to spread the spirit of unity and mercy
among everyone. This also establishes the values of social solidarity
and mercy among members of society during the holy month of Ramadan,
which features an atmosphere of spirituality and faith as well as
sympathy between the different classes of society.
The Traffic
and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police intensified monitoring
during the holy month of Ramadan and called upon drivers to make use of
the spiritual meanings of this month to contribute to road safety by
committing to traffic laws, reducing speed, paying attention, fastening
seat belts, not using the phone while driving, leaving enough distance
behind vehicles, and being cautious and attentive.
