ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, July 8th 2013

The Al Faraj Relief Fund at the Ministry of Interior launched a Ramadan campaign to provide aid to the Punitive Reformatory Establishments’ inmates with a view to release them and alleviate their family’s suffering.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Faraj Relief Fund, indicated that the campaign aims to collect donations to help the families of insolvent inmates to pay their debts and help their families provide for their needs.

“Some inmates in Punitive Reformatory Establishments stay for long periods due to their inability to pay their debts. This unfortunate predicament necessitates helping them and ending their grief, so that they can return to their families and reintegrate in their communities,” stated Major General Al Nuaimi.

Furthermore, he called upon governmental and private institutions, philanthropists, and merchants to support this campaign. He pointed out that the moral and community responsibility requires supporting inmates and enabling their release in line with the Ministry of Interior's belief in the importance of fostering the spirit of social solidarity, which contributes directly to family and community stability.

The Al Faraj Relief Fund Ramadan campaign includes programs, news and periodic announcements in print and broadcast media, as well as distributing brochures. The campaign will also be visible through ads placed on lampposts and bridges and through SMS messages in addition to other related activities.

The fund promotes the spirit of solidarity and social cohesion promoted by the Islamic religion, confirms the modern concepts with respect to the role of the Punitive Reformatory Establishments, ensures a decent life for the inmate's family, settles outstanding financial issues between the inmate and the plaintiff, pays the inmate’s civil debts, provides the necessary financial support to help their families, and pays the blood money (Diya) through cooperation and collaboration with charities and competent entities. The fund also provides the necessary financial support for medical assistance for inmates and their families, as well as travel tickets for insolvent foreign inmates, who must be repatriated to their home countries.
