The Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Western Region Police Directorate, will be participating in Al Gharbia Extreme Sports Festival scheduled to kick off on Thursday evening. The festival held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, will run until March 30 under the slogan “More Sports… More Thrills and Fun”. It is one of the biggest and most important international sporting events that features thrill, excitement, challenge and adventure.
Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police indicated that the directorate has stepped up patrols along the road leading up to the festival site; and has completed its readiness to provide the best policing and security services.
“Through this participation, the directorate seeks to inculcate the strategy of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, aimed at enhancing security and safety for all segments of society, and to support efforts to gain public confidence in the security and public safety services,” noted Colonel Al Junaibi.
The Director of the Western Region Police Directorate urged all participants in these events, athletes and visitors alike, to cooperate with police and security agencies operating on site. “This would turn the festival into an opportunity to advocate the principles of public safety and to spread safety education among this sports’ fans and audience, as well as preserve lives of our youth by calling on them to comply with safety procedures to avoid any potential risk of injury,” emphasized Colonel Al Junaibi.
The Public Relations Section at the Western Region Police Directorate has set up an integrated plan that includes awareness activities for the festival’s visitors. It has also assigned groups of Community Police officers to provide services to the public.
Taking place at the public park of the Madinat Zayed City in the Western Region, the festival’s roster will include freestyle shows, competitions for the public, as well as BMX and skateboarding shows.
Doors will open at 4:00 pm today, with side and interactive acts, as well as BMX and skateboarding shows. The official opening ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm with a fireworks show, followed by monster truck and motor cross main show. The same shows are scheduled for the second, third and fourth days, and will also include the Al Gharbia Motor Cross Race.
