ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, October 2nd 2013 [ME NewsWire]
A
total of 2,587 students benefited from 37 traffic education lectures
organized by the Public Relations Section at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic
and Patrols Directorate, during September. The programs are in line
with the strategic partnership between the directorate and the Abu Dhabi
Education Council (ADEC), and are part of the “Students’ Safety is
Everyone’s Responsibility” campaign.
Captain Aisha Mohammed Al
Zaabi, Traffic Awareness Officer at the Public Relations Section at the
Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that as
part of these lectures, students were acquainted with the golden rule
for riding the school bus, and urged them to refrain from riding bikes
and playing ball on the road to avoid run-over accidents. Students also
received gifts and traffic-awareness brochures during the event.
Al
Zaabi added that the traffic education programs that took place this
past September targeted students, drivers and school bus supervisors, as
well as the educational and administrative bodies. Lectures and field
trips in Abu Dhabi included 25 public and private schools, and targeted
students across all academic levels.
She also stressed the need
to engage all social categories, as well as empower the role of schools,
parents, education and administration entities, and school bus drivers
in order to provide traffic safety for students during the new school
year.
“The Abu Dhabi Police’s traffic education programs for the
upcoming year will feature several initiatives and traffic programs in
the various schools across the Emirate. These programs and initiatives
include 200 lectures for students, drivers and school bus supervisors,
in addition to 150,000 copies of printed material including brochures,
and coloring books; in addition to gifts, traffic toys, school bags, and
other school tools,” she noted.
The programs will also include
educational programs focused on traffic safety rules such as: crossing
roads and using seatbelts in addition to the golden rule for using the
school bus. Additionally, as part of the programs, traffic education
messages will be broadcast via radio; as well as awareness raising tips
through Abu Dhabi traffic programs on social media websites such as
Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. These initiatives aim at preventing
traffic accidents and empower the role of both society and the education
sector in the traffic awareness process.
