Sheikh Saif Honors Two Patrol Directorate Sergeants for Rescuing a Girl from a House Fire
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, November 3rd 2013 [ME NewsWire]
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, honored Sergeants Khaled Ali Al Badwawi and Rashid Salem Al Yamahi of the External Traffic Roads Section at the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate recently in his office. This honor was in appreciation for their efforts and courageous roles in rescuing an 18-month old national girl from a house fire.
This rescue incident asserts that the role of Traffic Directorate is not restricted to saving peoples’ lives on roads and monitoring traffic flow. The directorate members have devoted their lives to helping others in difficult situations in any place when needed.
His Highness extended his thanks and appreciation to the sergeants and praised their efforts in rescuing the girl and getting her hospitalized. He pointed out that such a deed exemplifies the devoted role of police entities to serve others.
Both of the honored sergeants expressed their gladness for being recognized, which demonstrates the Higher Leadership’s care towards police officers. They said that such an honoring is a valuable medal to them and an incentive to carry on their efforts and dedication for the country.
On October 27th at 12:00 am, the Operations Room at the Patrols Directorate was alerted to a fire incident in the Swaihan area. They immediately rushed to the location where they were informed by witnesses about two people trapped inside the burning house. Sergeant Khaled Al Badwawi promptly broke inside and was able to bring out the girl and send her to the hospital where she died next day. The sergeant re-entered the house to rescue an Indian maid who was deceased as a result of heavy smoke inhalation. Sergeant Al Badwawi also suffocated and was taken to hospital for treatment; his fellow sergeant was in continual communication with his authority leaders and other parties to update them on the rescue operation.
Present at the honoring ceremony was Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of the Headquarters Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier Eng.
