Conference Calls for Embracing ADP’s Experience in Quality and Excellence

Participants attending the Quality and Excellence Conference called for following in the footsteps of Abu Dhabi Police and endorsing their unique experience in the field of quality and excellence.

They also called for promoting this experience globally as an ideal model of organizational excellence.

Additionally, the participants lauded the Abu Dhabi Police’s achievements in their journey towards excellence, and praised their efforts to reinforce and spread the culture of quality and excellence. Moreover, they said that such conferences should be organized annually, in addition to similar seminars and events. The attendees also underlined the importance of innovation and creativity as an essential foundation for achieving sustainable excellence, citing the UAE's creative initiatives to promote and support innovation.

The Conference tackled a number of experiences and best practices from around the world, within the system of excellence. The participants examined lessons learned from those practices and applications, and reviewed the modern tools that avail technology to assess and measure standards of quality and excellence.

The Quality and Excellence Conference 2015, which was held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi, was organized by the Excellence Culture Spreading Team at Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Training Department (Conferences Organizing Section).  The conference highlighted a number of ideas, proposals and mechanisms to support the pursuit of excellence and quality, and provided an opportunity for stakeholders and local and international experts to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of quality and excellence.

In his address towards the end of the Conference, Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services, Head of the Quality and Excellence Team pointed out that this conference aims to instill the concept and practices of quality and excellence, as well as to identify the excellence factors that are key to a successful and productive workforce, which, he said, “are a prominent feature in the Abu Dhabi Police’s performance.” He also stressed the importance of acquainting participants with the major achievements made by the Abu Dhabi Police and the advanced leading positions they have attained in the field of quality and excellence.

In conclusion, Major General Al Menhali reiterated the keenness of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior to motivate the skilled cadres at the Ministry of Interior, to boost their efficiency, productivity and their skills training for job readiness, so as to achieve the coveted expectations and aspirations of the Federal and Local Government in the field of quality and excellence.

The opening ceremony was attended by Major General, Nasser bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of Resources and Support Services, Head of the Quality and Excellence Team; Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services in Abu Dhabi police; Brigadier Obeid Salem Al Ketbi, Director General of Human Resources at Abu Dhabi Police, and Dr. Tayeb Kamali, former Director of the Higher Colleges of Technology Complex.

The conference was also attended by Colonel Othman Al Khoury, Head  of the Education Department; Colonel Mohammed Al Muhairi, Head  of the Employees Performance Appraisal Department; Colonel Yeslam bin Hydra Al Tamimi, Acting Head of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Department; Colonel Khalfan Al Kaabi, Deputy Head of the Training Department; as well as members of the Quality and Excellence Team; members of the Excellence Culture Spreading Team, and a number of officers and staff members at the Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police.

Colonel Khalfan Al Kaabi, Deputy Head of the Training Department, said: “This conference is a culmination of strenuous efforts to attract an elite group of experts and researchers in order to establish the fundamentals of policing efforts.” He also pointed out to the Abu Dhabi Police's keenness to reinforce the efforts towards excellence and to spread the culture of quality amongst all of their members, in order to achieve optimal results that befit the police institution’s stature.
According to Colonel Al Kaabi, the conference highlighted the Abu Dhabi Police’s excellence in all areas of work. It was also an opportunity to showcase Abu Dhabi Police’s achievements, being one of the major entities that embrace quality and excellence in their day-to-day practices. Colonel Al Kaabi also mentioned the importance of the topics addressed by the experts, who enriched the events of this gathering and achieved the desired benefit; whereas the topics tackled several vital issues that support the process to implement and apply the standards of quality and excellence.
The conference began with a welcome address by the conference host welcoming the participating leaders, officers and international experts, followed by an introductory film showcasing the Abu Dhabi Police journey towards excellence. After that, the activities of the conference began, with a number of work papers, submitted by an elite group of professors and international experts in the field of quality and excellence.

The first paper titled "Leadership and How to Achieve Excellence" was presented by Prof. Dr. Hadi Al Tijani, Executive Director of Abu Dhabi International Centre for Organizational Excellence and the General Coordinator of Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award (SKEA). The paper tackled the subject of leadership and how it relates to the standards of excellence within the quality and performance system; along with the latest concepts and applications in standards and selection.
The second paper titled "Organizational Excellence Continuity:  the importance of corporate values" was presented by Dr. Robin Mann, Director, Centre for Organizational Excellence Research, Chairman of the TRADE Best Practice Benchmarking.(UK). In his paper, Dr. Mann reviewed the concepts and standards of excellence as well as the best practices adopted in this regard; taking into account the development and formulation of basic values.

The third work paper titled "The Four Pillars of Excellence and Best Practices" delivered by Advisor Dawn R. Rose, an expert on quality, assessment and excellence from Canada. The paper focused on the proper way to integrate excellence standards in administrative applications, and reviewed some of the best practices, especially those adopted by government and private institutions in Canada and the United States of America.
The fourth paper was presented by Expert Ravi Fernando, CEO of the Australian Organizational Excellence Foundation, Australia's representative on the prestigious Global Excellence Models Council and the Global Benchmarking Network. The paper, titled "Customer Service within the Standards of Excellence", focused on the customer service standards within the excellence and performance system, with reference to the Australian police experience in the field of quality and excellence.

The conference closing speech thanked the speakers, experts and participants for their important work papers, by which they added value to the debate sessions, thanks to their distinguished experiences and expertise in the field of quality and excellence.
