ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, March 9th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Abu Dhabi Police has released information regarding a horrific murder, where a housemaid (an illegal resident) was killed and her corpse was found in the Al Ajban Area. The police were quickly able to identify the couple responsible for the crime. They both admitted to the murder, despite their attempts of disposing of the corpse by burning it with a chemical product and placing it in a distant location.
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, said that the department was tipped off about a corpse of an anonymous woman with burned fingers, wrapped in a cloth, and thrown away in a sandy area in Al Ajban in Abu Dhabi.
“CID officers, along with specialized entities from the police force, were mobilized. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the corpse was a dead woman that had been killed deliberately in a pre-meditated crime (She had been beaten, assaulted and burned). The team carried out an investigation at the scene of the crime and the Criminal Investigation Department quickly assigned another investigation team from the Psychological Crimes Section to collect information and investigate this mysterious murder,” said Borshid.
He added: “Despite the lack of criminal evidence, the police were able to identify the victim, which appeared to be an Ethiopian domestic worker (who was working illegally). The circumstances and facts discovered during the initial investigation were linked, allowing the team to identify suspects and anyone involved in the crime. Within hours, police arrested “M.A”, an Arab national who works for a contracting company.”
At first, the suspect tried to deny the crime. However, after being confronted with irrefutable evidence, the suspect confessed. He admitted that his wife “”R.I” (a house-wife), killed the maid after having an argument at their house in Khalifa City.
According to the investigation, the suspect said that his wife had beaten the deceased woman with a thick stick until she died. The husband then tore off her clothes and poured a chemical product on her body, trying to wipe out all her features. He then wrapped her up with a cloth, put her in a suitcase and along with his wife, took her in their car and disposed of her body in a sandy area in Al Ajban.
Colonel Borshid stated that the wife was arrested at a hotel. She was staying there, as she had feared being caught at her house. She admitted being involved in committing the crime with her husband. He pointed out that the Criminal Investigation Department is still carrying on with the extensive investigations to unveil the exact circumstances of the incident.
Abu Dhabi Police Harboring Couple’s Children
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid said that upon arresting the couple, coordination procedures took place with the Department of Social Support Centers of Abu Dhabi Police to provide shelter for one of their children (who is two years old). The step aims to protect the family and avoid the possible negative impact the parent’s criminal act could have on the child. The second baby (who is eight months old) remained with the wife in prison. Borshid mentioned that the Social Support Centers are one of the ways of strengthening the relationship between police and society. It provides the required protection (sheltering) along with services and the necessary essential requirements.
