The
Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development at the
Ministry of Interior organized a workshop at the Hilton Hotel in Abu
Dhabi to discuss developing the ministry’s Federal Strategic Plan
2014-2016 to Combat Drugs. The plan update is part of the Ministry of
Interior’s comprehensive strategic development project. .
Major
General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of
HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior attended the workshop.
He indicated that this workshop complements the discussions, and is
aligned with the Federal Government’s requirements and its directives to
update all strategic plans at the level of the federal ministries in
its third edition.
Also attending the workshop, Major General
Abdul Jalil Mahdi Mohammed, Director General of the Dubai Police
Anti-Narcotics Department; Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamesi, Director
General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the ministry;
General Directors of Police Operations in the State; Heads of the
Community Police Departments; along with heads of departments and chiefs
of Strategy sections at all Police GHQs. Also present were Colonel
Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director General, Anti-Narcotics Federal
Directorate General; Colonel Aziz Hamoud Al Ameri, Director General of
the Strategy and Performance Development Directorate General; heads of
anti-narcotics departments at the police GHQs, strategy officers, and
work teams.
Colonel Aziz Al Ameri welcomed the participants and
said: “This workshop is part of a series of workshops organized by the
Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development to complete
discussions pertaining to development of the Federal Strategy to combat
drugs,” noted Al Ameri. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of
strategic planning at the Ministry, as per the Federal Government’s
strategies, geared towards complementing the development and improvement
process initiated by the Ministry in 2010. “The ministry is currently
updating its 2014/2016 strategy, in keeping with the stature and renown
of the UAE,” stressed Al Ameri.
Major Dr. Hamad Ahmad Al Darmaki,
Head of the Performance Evaluation Department gave an overview of the
international-best practices to develop an anti-drugs strategy.
For
his part, Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Federal
Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General shed the light on the main
challenges and strategic initiatives related to drug fight, as well as
the efforts exerted in this area.
On the same note, Major Jamal
Salem Al Khateri, Chief of Strategic Planning and Development Section,
gave a detailed briefing on the workshop’s drills, related to the
initiatives and indicators in the fight against drugs.
Furthermore,
Richard Russell gave a presentation on international-best practices to
combat drugs, and the magnitude of the drug problem in the UAE.
Workshop
participants carried out a set of practical exercises and adopted the
special recommendations with respect to the development of a Federal
Strategy to Combat Drugs.
