BOSTON - Tuesday, August 6th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS
WIRE) Spirit of Iranian Noted Achievers (SINA) today announced its 2013
outstanding achievers and Hall of Fame inductees. The honorees will be
recognized during the international SINA Day conference to be held Oct.
12 at the Harvard University Science Center.
SINA, launched by a
Boston-based group of scholars and students, seeks to formally recognize
and honor Iranians for their outstanding contributions in the Arts,
Business & Leadership, Engineering, Humanities, Medicine,
Philanthropy and Science. Award recipients and Hall of Fame inductees
are selected by SINA’s student team, who represent Boston-based
institutions such as Harvard, MIT, Boston University and Northeastern.
The achievement award is in recognition of contributions made in a
particular category while the Hall of Fame honor is for lifetime
accomplishments.
This year’s four honorees, each of whom will receive a $10,000 prize from SINA, are, in alphabetical order:
Arts, Director/Producer and Screenwriter Bahram Beyzaie;
Engineering, University of Pennsylvania Distinguished Engineering Professor Nader Engheta;
Humanities, University of Oxford’s Oriental Studies Professor Homa Katouzian;
Medicine, Ophthalmologist and Retinal Surgeon Dr. Gholam Peyman
Awards may not be given in each category every year.
“Iranians
have been contributing to all aspects of civilization for well over
2,500 years, and I am honored to become a member of SINA and to help to
continue this trend and contribute as a citizen of our world,” said
Peyman.
The eight Hall of Fame entrants who are honored for lifetime achievements are, again in alphabetical order:

is an honor to help bridge the past with the future students who
comprise SINA, and with such distinguished Iranian scholars,” said
Yarshater. “I also am very pleased to be inducted into the SINA Hall of
Fame with this class and to be part of a process to energize this new

SINA’s
goal is to draw global attention to the ongoing contributions of
prominent Iranians through activities such as the First Annual SINA

world civilization and society, and ‘The Best is Yet to Come’ will be a
wonderful event,” said Rouzbeh Yassini, CEO of YAS Capital Partners.
ABOUT SINA
The
organization’s name SINA doubles as an allusion to Ibn Sina (known to
the Latin West as Avicenna), the visionary Persian polymath whose vast
contributions to medieval intellectual history are virtually
unparalleled. Ibn Sina epitomizes the spirit that we aim to celebrate
and promote at SINA.
