GlassPoint Welcomes New Director of Business Development in GCC
Schlumberger veteran Daniel Palmer to drive expansion in GCC for solar EOR leader
FREMONT, Calif. & MUSCAT, Oman - Monday, August 5th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) GlassPoint Solar, the global leader in solar enhanced oil recovery (EOR), today announced the appointment of Daniel Palmer as Director of Business Development for the Middle East region. Palmer draws on more than 20 years of experience with Schlumberger, the world’s largest oilfield service provider, to drive GlassPoint’s expansion across the Middle East.
“Advancing enhanced oil recovery technologies is essential to the sustainable growth of the oil industry across the GCC,” said Palmer. “GlassPoint’s proven Enclosed Trough solution opens tremendous opportunities for oil companies and is already helping countries like Oman economically produce more oil while saving natural gas for other needs. I look forward to helping more oil companies across the region harness the power of GlassPoint’s leading EOR solution.”
Daniel Palmer comes to GlassPoint from Schlumberger, where he served several roles in marketing, business development and operations across the globe. Palmer has held titles from Marketing and Technology Manager to North Sea Operations Manager at Schlumberger Wireline services to his most recent role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in the Middle East. Palmer is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), holds a master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge University and attended the petroleum engineering program at Heriot-Watt University.
“It’s essential that we have a business leader who understands the economic and operational benefits of solar EOR for oil companies in the Middle East,” said Rod MacGregor, president and CEO of GlassPoint. “Daniel’s deep understanding of the needs of the oil industry make him the ideal person to power GlassPoint’s expansion as we continue developing large-scale projects across the GCC.”
Palmer joins GlassPoint on the heels of the company’s successful commissioning of the Middle East’s first solar EOR project, developed in partnership with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). This 7MWth system now generates an average of over 50 tonnes of emissions-free steam daily and has exceeded contracted performance by 10% in performance tests. The company closed a US$26 million Series B financing in December of 2012, including the participation of Royal Dutch Shell plc group, one of the world’s largest oil companies, as well as leading energy investors RockPort Capital, Nth Power and Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital.
About GlassPoint Solar
GlassPoint is the leading provider of solar steam generators to the oil and gas industry. When used for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), GlassPoint solar steam generators reduce natural gas consumption by up to 80%, redirecting gas resources to higher value applications such as electricity generation and export. GlassPoint's solar EOR solution delivers steam at costs competitive with gas-fired steam generation, enabling producers to economically recover more oil. GlassPoint drives lower costs by enclosing lightweight components within a glasshouse to seal the system from sand, dust, dirt and high humidity typical of oilfield environments throughout the world. The company is headquartered in Fremont, California with offices in Bakersfield, California, Muscat, Oman and Shenzhen, China. For more information, visit GlassPoint.com.
