Capital Police Urges Banking Clients to Protect their Cash
Warning the community against present-day theft activities
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, August 4th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Capital Police Directorate called upon banking clients to look after their cash in order to avoid thefts by people who wait for opportunities to steal their money. The directorate urged them to be careful when they leave the banks in order to not become an easy victim to those thieves who would distract them and then steal from them.
The directorate has warned banking clients against thieves who prey on citizens and residents while they go to banks to withdraw money in preparation for Eid Al-Fitr. The directorate called upon community members to not hesitate to contact the Operations Room on 999 in the event that they doubt the intentions of an individual following them after they leave the bank.
The directorate stressed that it is ready to take action against banking client thieves by pursuing criminals in an effort to eradicate this problem. The directorate said that it will closely monitor banking areas, locate its patrols nearby, and use other means to curtail such crimes. It will also raise awareness among clients and provide them with advice and instructions on how to protect themselves and their money.
The directorate has raised awareness among banking clients by introducing them to the appropriate methods of carrying their money after leaving the bank while stressing the importance of being aware of individuals that may be monitoring them and waiting for an opportunity to steal from them.
Brigadier Maktoum Al Sharifi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate, said: “Thefts against banking clients is so far an infrequent occurrence, and has not yet become a larger issue.” He added: “However, this issue is widely discussed in the directorate to fight this problem by arresting any person who tries to steal money from banking clients. We are also working to make citizens and residents aware of the risks resulting from carelessness after leaving the banks while carrying cash.”
He stated: “The police efforts in raising awareness among banking clients helps to improve security among individuals and foster peace of mind within society. Crimes are in continuous evolution, moving from one place to another and from one society to another. We are investing every capability available to fight and eliminate crime. Awareness is one of the ways that can greatly help to reduce it.”
Brigadier Al Sharifi called upon businessmen and company owners to warn their agents to be careful when leaving banks while carrying cash.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Muslim Mohammed Al Ameri, Head of the Khalidiya Police Station at the Capital Police Directorate, said: “Crimes against banking clients follow the same criminal pattern. Such thefts take place outside banks when a client leaves carrying cash and enters his car. Thieves would try to distract the client using different techniques, and then steal the cash. Being careful and alert achieves safety and security for all society members. Bank managers and employees have realized this and are making their best efforts together with us to achieve our desired goal to eliminate such crimes.”
He added: “A team from the Community Police Branch at the Khalidiya Police Station has delivered an explanation to a number of bank employees regarding the procedures to be followed with elders and women. The team has advised bank employees to warn clients against thieves, and help them if necessary. They were also asked to test security cameras outside the banks and advise security employees to report suspicious individuals.”
Lt. Colonel Al Ameri commended the positive response of bank managers as well as their unlimited cooperation with community police branches at the Khalidiya Police Station.
Members of the Community Police Branch at the Khalidiya Police Station distributed awareness brochures to individuals at 27 banks including clients, employees, and security personnel.
