ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, August 5th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Directorate General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi confirms its readiness to welcome the glorious occasion of Eid Al Fitr; Civil Defense Centers in Abu Dhabi have increased the alertness of the firefighting and rescue teams to quickly respond to incidents of fire and other accidents.
This statement was made by Captain Abdullah Al Tamimi, Head of Customer Service and Public Relations Section at the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Directorate General. Captain Al Tamimi indicated that the Civil Defense Centers will remain highly alert during festive occasions and holidays due to increased traffic resulting from family excursions and recreational trips.
“The Civil Defense Centers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region have the potential and the equipment necessary to quickly arrive to incident locations and handle the situation with expertise in order to reduce loss of life and property,” stressed Al Tamimi.
He called on community members to cooperate with the Civil Defense as part of its "Your Safety" campaign, and immediately report any accidents to facilitate the dispatch of rescue and firefighting teams. He also urged them to exercise positive individual and collective behavior, both inside and outside the house. Captain Al Tamimi added that there is an officer on duty who works in each department, in addition to the general officer, to take calls. Moreover, he urged the public to make way for Civil Defense vehicles when performing their duty and to not crowd accident scenes or park their vehicles in front of fire hydrants.
Captain Al Tamimi appealed to parents to exercise caution in public parks, gardens and beaches, and to follow the instructions on signage and observe the safety tips at home before leaving the house; people should switch off electricity and close gas cylinders.
Concluding, Al Tamimi warned parents against the risks of fireworks that accompany the celebration of this glorious occasion, as they pose a great threat to children by causing serious injuries that can result in physical abnormalities and contain harmful substances. He also emphasized the need to choose games carefully by ensuring that they are equipped with safety means, such as seatbelts in motorized toys. He also encouraged parents to ensure that children keep a considerable distance from the perimeter of such games while they are in motion.
