Participants in the Ministry of Interior Council that was hosted by citizen Mufleh Ayed Al Ahbabi at his residence in the city of Al Ain stressed the need to be wary of the dangers of absconding workers, in support of the efforts to combat violators of the residency laws in the UAE.
They also praised the different services provided by the Naturalization and Residency sector at the Ministry, and the significant efforts to curb this objectionable phenomenon, which is currently on the decline due to the cooperation of community members and categories with the competent authorities. They also emphasized their commitment to pursue cooperation with relevant entities to eradicate this problem.
Participants called for enhancing coordination between the Ministry of Labor, the Naturalization and Residency Department and recruitment agencies, as well as endeavoring to unify visa application procedures at the different Naturalization and Residency departments across the country.
The council, which was moderated by Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Shumairi, Editor-in-Chief and General Manager of Al Watan Newspaper, is part of the series of awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Directorate of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Participants agreed upon the importance of community awareness to enhance protection against the risks of employing illegal workers. They noted that challenges are enormous, given the fact that the UAE hosts millions of workers of more than 200 nationalities from around the globe, which yield significant social challenges and implications, not mention the different customs and behaviors that have become widespread in society; among other dangers.
Colonel Taleb Abdul Karim Al Mahmud, Head of the Federal Violators and Foreigners Affairs Department, noted that violators of the residency laws are an in issue of great concern to all countries around the world, especially to the UAE, which attracts migrant workers due to its economic attractiveness and represents a major trade and investment hub for foreigners seeking to work and reside in the UAE. He said: “Prospects of better earning opportunities cause workers to abscond their sponsors.” He also noted that absconding workers increase the number of residency law violators in the country, which in turn results in a number of risks that require to be dealt with constantly.
Additionally, he underlined the importance of ongoing cooperation and teamwork between the various members and segments of society, citizens and residents alike, with the competent authorities so as to curb and eradicate this phenomenon. In conclusion, he called upon community members to contribute to providing innovative solutions to the problem of violators of residency laws via the various communication channels at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Sector.
For his part, Colonel Mohammed Hamoud Al Nabhani, Deputy Director of the Residency and foreigners Affairs Department in Al Ain said: “Overcoming the countless challenges that we are facing toady require concerted efforts amongst all entities.” Moreover, he pointed out that all of the services provided by the Naturalization and Residency Sector aim to streamlining access of citizens and residents to these services hassle-free.
Colonel Al Nabhani reiterated the commitment of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Abu Dhabi to promote work performance and to work effectively to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world in terms of safety and security. He praised the unrelenting efforts exerted by the department’s staff members to apprehend infiltrators in Abu Dhabi. He also commended the periodic awareness-raising meetings and lectures organized by the Naturalization and Residency sector throughout the year, with the aims of acquainting community members with the risks of violating the law by employing infiltrators and harboring residency violators. Colonel Al Nabhani highlighted the various services provided by the department to its customers of seniors and people with special needs, such the “Closer to you” dedicated to cater to the needs of this segment of society. The department provides seniors and people with special needs with streamlined high-end services; including dispatching a competent team of staff members to complete their transactions from the convenience of their homes, without having to visit the centers, thus saving them hardship and efforts.
Lieutenant Khalifa Al Kaabi tackled the wide array of services offered, including the issuance of passports, family books and birth registration to citizens. “Such services are also available across all of the service centers outside of the Naturalization Department, not to mention the e-services provided via smart applications,” he indicated. Furthermore, Lieutenant Khalifa pointed out that the Naturalization and Residency Department offers services to residents, including visa permits, residency renewal, and other transactions that are completed in a record time.
Towards the end of the meeting that was attended by a number of dignitaries, officers and citizens, the Ministry of Interior presented a commemorative shield to Mr. Mufleh Al Ahbabi. Al Ahbabi expressed his sincere thanks to the police leadership for its effective interaction with the largest number of society segments, through these purposeful councils that discuss topics of interest to all segments of society. “Such councils also aim to raise awareness about potential risks, which we should all join hands to overcome,” he concluded.
