As of Thursday: Buses that are more than 10 Years Old banned from Entering Saudi Arabia

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, September 24th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
As of Thursday September 25, the competent authorities in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will start enforcing the law that bans the entry of non-Saudi buses that are more than 10 years old from transporting passengers and goods into the kingdom or through its territory.
Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General, Traffic Coordination Department, Ministry of Interior, indicated that Saudi authorities have come up with new rules and regulations that must be met. According to these rules, buses transporting passengers into KSA must not be more than 10 years old; these measures aim to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and other road users. Brigadier Al Zaabi urged bus owners to take note of this decision and comply with the new rules issued by the Saudi authorities in order to avoid legal accountability.
He explained that the Traffic Coordination Department has instructed traffic and patrols departments in the country to inform bus owners and drivers of this new decision. By virtue of the new decision, Saudi Arabia will ban buses that are more than 10 years old from entering its territory, and force them to turn back along with the passengers.
Moreover, the Saudi authorities called upon the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department to avoid issuing round trip certificates for such buses that ferry pilgrims through the Saudi territory. They also urged the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments to inform hajj campaign organizers of the need to take note of the decision and respect the law.
