ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, February 17th 2014
The
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department of Abu Dhabi
Police has obtained the ISO 20000 Management of IT Operations
Certification. It is worth mentioning that this is considered to be one
of the best international standard certifications for excellence in the
field of IT service management, and is based on (ITIL) standards. The
department managed to obtain this accreditation after successfully
passing a three-day external audit that was recently conducted by TUV
Rheinland and carrying out preparations that lasted for more than a
year.
Colonel Anwar Abdullah Al Mulla, Head of the Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) Department of Abu Dhabi Police, noted
that obtaining this prestigious certification is a result of the police
leadership’s support and guidance. “It also comes in pursuance of Abu
Dhabi Police’s strategy to implement international best practices. It
embodies the efforts made by the work teams and the department’s
employees to achieve leadership and excellence in the provision of
services in accordance with the best international practices,” explained
Al Mulla.
He added: “Winning this certification reflects the
department's commitment towards continuous improvement and providing
excellent services to customers. Obtaining this certificate will
encourage the department to double its efforts to enhance the quality of
IT services that it provides effectively and efficiently, as per
international standards.”
For his part, Colonel Mohammed Abdullah
Al Zaabi, Deputy Director of the Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) Department of Abu Dhabi Police and Director of the ISO
20000 Project, stressed that the department managed to match all of the
(ISO 20000) requirements, which is an extraordinary achievement. “This
certification is considered to be the best standard in the world in
terms of quality of management processes, designed to ensure the
provision of IT services to internal and external customers in an
effective manner,” Al Zaabi noted. He also pointed out that the
department had begun preparing for this certification a year ago by
training 420 staff members on the ITIL program at its own expense. It
also helped 187 of its employees and officers obtain an ITIL Foundation
certification and qualified 32 others as Information Technology
Infrastructure Library experts (ITIL Expert).
“The department has
successfully completed all standards and requirements which made it
eligible to receive this certificate within a period that did not exceed
one year; including the testing and auditing period that it has managed
to overcome efficiently,” said Al Zaabi. Furthermore, he praised the
great efforts made by the department’s staff members to enhance the
quality of IT services.
Al Zaabi said: “This certificate marks
another addition to the department’s myriad of awards and certificates
in its quest to achieve leadership and excellence. It is an incentive to
achieve further results that will enable us to win numerous local and
global awards and certificates. It also complements our efforts to
attain institutional excellence, deliver innovative and modern services
and achieve higher customer satisfaction rates.”
It has to be
mentioned that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Department of Abu Dhabi Police has also obtained the ISO 9001: 2008
Quality Management System Certification. Therefore, it is committed to
implementing the highest standards of quality and excellence in all its
processes in order to support the successful implementation of its
strategic plan 2013-2017, and achieve one of its most prominent pillars
of developing excellent services according to international standards.
