Abu Dhabi Police Placing Defibrillator in Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Bani Yas
Training the Public
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, December 31st 2013 [ME NewsWire]
Abu Dhabi Police set up a defibrillation device at the Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Bani Yas City on Tuesday. This step was taken as a response to directions given by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who asked for defibrillators to be installed in public places.
A special team from the Emergency and Public Safety Department has taken the responsibility of training mall staff members on how to use the device. This will benefit the Al Sharq Mall customers.
Lt. Colonel Mohammad Ibrahim Al Ameri, Director of the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police, announced that defibrillators will be installed at the Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi next Thursday. The device will also be set up in Sahara Mall in Sharjah on Sunday, January 12th, 2014; in Ajman Municipality on Monday, January 13th, 2014; Umm al-Quwain Municipality on January, 14th, 2014; Al Manara Center in Ras al-Khaimah on January 15th, 2014; and at the City Center in Fujairah on January 16th, 2014. He stressed that the installation process will continue and the other locations will be announced at a later date.
Al Ameri said that the department has already installed the device in Marina Mall, Al Khalidiyah Mall, Al Wahda Mall, and the Abu Dhabi Mall. It has also been installed at the Al Ain Zoo.
Furthermore, Lt. Colonel Al Ameri explained that the defibrillator is used when there are symptoms of circulatory failure and when a person is suspected of having a heart attack. The symptoms include syncope, loss of normal breathing, loss of pulse, or absence of circulatory activity indicators. He pointed out that the device is safe and easy to use because it does not emit an electrical charge before analyzing the person’s pulse, heart activity signs, and the need for ventricular fibrillation that requires the electrical charge.
Additionally, Al Ameri said that the defibrillator cannot be used as long as the patient is conscious and is breathing normally, has a measurable pulse, and shows normal circulatory activity. The device will only be used by qualified staff members who have received sufficient training, and know how to operate the mechanism.
It is worth mentioning that the Public Safety and Emergency Department is an international center accredited by the American Heart Association, and is authorized to organize and conduct training programs for cardiopulmonary treatment and defibrillation devices.
