Abu Dhabi Police Installs Defibrillator in Mushrif Mall

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, January 4th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police has set up a defibrillation device at the Mushrif Mall on Thursday. This step was taken as a response to the police leadership’s directions, to install defibrillators in public places across the UAE.

A special team from the Emergency and Public Safety Department has taken the responsibility of training the Mushrif Mall staff members on how to operate the device. This will benefit the mall’s customers.

Mr. Wajeb Al Khouri, the Mall Manager praised this gesture which aims to maintain the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors as well. He pointed out to the importance of having such devices in public places, and expressed his thanks to the Abu Dhabi Police for its efforts in training the mall’s staff members on how to operate the device when necessary.

The Emergency and Public Safety Department had installed defibrillation devices at Marina Mall, Al Khalidiyah Mall, Al Wahda Mall, and the Abu Dhabi Mall in Abu Dhabi. It has also been installed at the Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Bani Yas City and the Al Ain Zoo. The device will also be set up this month in five locations in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah.  The installation process will continue and the other locations will be announced at a later date.

It is worth noting that the defibrillator is used when there are symptoms of circulatory failure (ischemia) in a person with suspected heart failure symptoms.  The symptoms include syncope, irregular breathing; weak or absent pulse, or absence of circulatory activity indicators.
