MoI Sets Car Decorating Guidelines for National Day

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, November 18th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Coordination Department, has established guidelines on car decorating during the 42nd National Day celebrations.

The ministry called upon motorists to comply with these requirements in all public areas across the state level during this occasion. These requirements aim to provide safety, reduce traffic violations and accidents, and avoid penalties stipulated in the Federal Law on traffic.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, identified the requirements for decorating vehicles and participating in the parade organized for celebration of the UAE 42nd National Day. These requirements are stipulated for the period from November 28th to December 5th; motorists and vehicle owners should conduct themselves in a way that enables the various segments of society to express their happiness during this occasion with a civilized spirit and without traffic violations.

“These requirements will be applied on all state roads,” stated Al Zaabi. Moreover, he stressed the commitment of the ministry and the Police General Headquarters to adopt all required measures to ensure that the 42nd National Day festivities be free of any traffic accidents that would mar the joy of this occasion.

These requirements state the need to obtain a permit from the Traffic and Patrols Departments before organizing any parades. “Motorists must observe the traffic laws and regulations, as well as the instructions of the police,” stressed Al Zaabi.

The police encourage the community to celebrate this precious national event and express their joy in a civilized manner. It allows writing decent national statements, installing the national flag on the vehicle at any location without endangering the driver’s safety or others. The police call upon motorists to place the flag and posters on the sides of the vehicle. It also allows decorating the car for National Day while respecting the legal 30% tint on the side and rear windows.

“The requirements for decorating vehicles for the 42nd National Day states guidelines for the period from November 27th to December 5th. The conditions outline to avoid coloring the windshield or dimming the side or rear windows, picking up passengers that exceed the number of allowed passengers in the vehicle, sitting with bodies outside of windows or on the sunroof, and sitting on the rooftop, windows, hood, or trunk of the car,” indicated Al Zaabi. The directorate also warned against performing acrobatic stunts, disrupting traffic, parking in prohibited places, blocking roads for other drivers, and equipping their vehicles with additions, which are meant to increase their sound or speed. Additionally it is prohibited to change the color of the vehicle unless the vehicle owner first obtains an authorization from the licensing authority, covering the vehicle’s license plates, putting posters that obscure vision, or using sprays; the use of sprays is not allowed for drivers or passengers.

He mentioned that violators will be subject to penalties as per the Traffic Federal Law and Regulations. These penalties include vehicle confiscation for a period ranging from one to twelve months, and a fine ranging from AED 500 to AED 20,000. “Other penalties will apply for violators of the car decorating guidelines for National Day,” noted Al Zaabi.
