An Awareness Initiative on Student Safety in Al Ain

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, September 9th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

With the arrival of the academic year 2013-2014, the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, implemented an awareness initiative in Al Ain, within this year’s campaign titled: “Students’ Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility.” The initiative was launched in a ceremony held at Al Nahyaniya School, and is being implemented in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing Section and the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), represented in the Al Ain academic region.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section, said: “In accordance with the Abu Dhabi Police’s plan for the new academic year, traffic patrols have been intensified in areas of traffic congestion around schools.”

Al Hemairi also urged parents, who drive their children to school, not to park their vehicles haphazardly in front of schools, since this behavior causes traffic congestion. He explained that students will deliver awareness-raising messages to their parents.

A helicopter from the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing Section flew above the school yard carrying the UAE flag. Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Police Music Band played the national anthem marking the celebration of its Golden Jubilee.

The Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section delivered a welcome speech on the occasion of the new academic year. Then, all of the participants gathered in one of the classrooms, where commemorative gifts were distributed to a number of students.

In his speech, Major Al Hemairi said that traffic safety for students is an integrated process involving the police in addition to three other key groups; namely, the family, the school, and drivers. He also pointed out that the family’s duty is based on their care for their children and prevention of their exposure to traffic accidents. The school’s duty is represented by upgrading the level of traffic culture. Finally, he urged drivers to pay attention on the road in order to maintain student safety.
