For
his part, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law
Respect Culture Bureau, attributed the success of the Ramadan Councils’
first edition launched last year, to the response and interaction of
people who attended the various Ramadan Councils, organized across the
seven emirates. This year, the Ramadan Councils will go door to door, to
shed light on the Ramadan family atmosphere, and make the legal
meetings friendlier and closer.
He stated: “This year’s Ramadan
Councils will have more momentum and efficiency to instill the
collective spirit of this holy month. There will be four legal councils,
which will tackle media, cultural, educational and sports topics; each
of which will include seven simultaneous sessions held in each Emirate”.
The
Councils will shed light on a set of laws inadvertently violated by
some people, due to ignorance. They will also emphasize the need to
establish a positive relationship between individuals and the law, to
convince them that laws were issued for the specific goal of protecting
them and achieving justice and equality in society. The Councils also
aim to acquaint community members with the advantages of these laws, and
the need to respect them.
The councils will also focus on the
role of civil society institutions in instilling this positive culture
in the community. Discussions will also touch on the role of the media
in consolidating the Supreme positive values, and enhancing public
awareness; by explaining the legal basics of freedom of expression.
In
the same context, the educational council will review the role of
social education institutions in instilling this culture in children, in
order to protect them from the key factors that generate a disturbed
character, non-compliant with laws and regulations and the values of
the community. A special attention will be given to social networking
sites to assess their impact on young people, and highlight the role of
parent’s’ supervision in protecting children against their immature
curiosity, which makes them vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
Furthermore,
the sports council will discuss the sports image of celebrity athletes
who represent a major factor of moral leadership in the community,
sending implicit moral messages to the young generations through their
behavior. As for the cultural council, it will explore the role of
customs and traditions in law respect; as they complement the legal
written rules, and are considered an important factor to reinforce
national identity.
It is noteworthy that the Ramadan Councils
reflect the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to spread legal awareness
among the various segments of society, institutions and individuals
alike, with particular emphasis on the issues they face, by resorting to
scientific expertise with high efficiency in this area.
The
Ramadan Councils will tackle a number of legal issues and topics,
notably the role of the media, educational and sports institutions,
along with the various customs and traditions, in instilling the law
respect culture. They will also address the impact of social networking
sites on the youth, freedom and responsibility.
