His
Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai,
Minister of Finance, UAE President of Dubai Health Authority inaugurated
today the 10th GCC Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery
Conference, 3rd Emirates Rhinology Conference and 2nd Arab &
Emirates Otology & Audiology Conference, which is taking place
at the InterContinental Festival City in Dubai. The Conference attracted
over 750 physicians and specialists from all over the Arab world.
In
his address, HisExcellency Engineer Essa Al Haj Al Maidoor is the
Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), stressed the
importance of this specialized medical Conference that underscores the
importance of communication and cooperation between various medical
institutions. It also emphasizes the need to harness the local and Arab
potentials and expertise in the field of diagnosis and treatment of
diseases and surgery of the Otorhinolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose, and
throat), in light of the amazing scientific and technical advances in
medical sciences; as the new global developments and changes require
from doctors to provide a speedy response and to keep pace with their
rapid progress, to provide outstanding levels of therapeutic services to
patients.
Furthermore,
Eng. Al Maidoor explained that the success achieved worldwide in the
field of diagnosis, treatment and surgery of the nose, ear and throat
diseases, makes us eager to look ahead to the developments of this
medical specialization by leveraging the successful experiences and best
global practices that contribute to raise and improve the level of
services provided to patients in health institutions.

Al Maidoor also highlighted that the Dubai Health Authority’s support
to this Conference embodies its strategy to support training and
continuous education for doctors in all fields of medicine. This would
ensure the best comprehensive health care levels, in line with
international-best standards in this area; so as to provide health

In
the same vein, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman, Director of Medical Affairs,
Consultant and Head of ENT Department, at the Dubai Hospital, and
Chairman of the conference highlighted in his speech, the various
developments in the world since the beginning of last century, in all
areas, including head and neck and ENT related medicine.
Moreover,
Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman stressed the importance of hosting this event,
organized by Dubai Health Authority in cooperation with the
Otorhinolaryngology Department at the Emirates Medical Association; the
GCC ORL Society; the Pan Arab Rhinology Society; and the Arab Society of
Otology & Audiology.
In
addition, the Chairman of the Conference said that the UAE was keen to
keep pace with global developments in all areas and provide better
medical services for citizens and residents. This is achieved thanks to
the support and ongoing care of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
President of the UAE, as well as the continuous support of H.H. Sheikh
Muhammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and
Ruler of Dubai, and their brethren members of Supreme Council and rulers
of the Emirates; who emphasized the need to provide health services to
every citizen and resident, to maintain the safety of community members.
Dr.
Abdul Rahman also tackled the increasing incidence of ENT diseases in
UAE and the world in general, which stresses the pertinent importance of
hosting such conferences, to spread health education among community
members, as well as to keep up-to-date with the latest in medical
advances, treatment and technology.
The
three-day conference will discuss all ENT related diseases and
surgeries, as well as the use of endoscopy in ORL surgeries; invasive
skull surgeries through the nose, using a surgical Navigator. The
conference will also discuss nose surgery for both functional and
aesthetic purposes, added Dr. Hussein.
The
Conference will also address head, neck and ENT related diseases
including obstructive sleep apnea, snoring; as well as diagnosis,
surgeries and treatment of such disorders to improve hearing, cochlea
implants, and various ORL related topics. Moreover, Dr. Abdul Rahman
highlighted the importance of the Conference, as a platform for all
healthcare professionals and specialists in the field of ENT medicine in
the GCC Countries to work together and exchange the latest information
on techniques and research into ENT related diseases.
Dr.
Rashid Bin Khalfan Al Abri, Secretary-General of the GCC ORL Society
Gulf Association stressed in his speech on the importance of the
Conference, which will discuss future developments and concerns in this
specialized medical field. Furthermore, he pointed out that the
Association began hosting such conferences biennially in one of the GCC
countries 19 years ago. The first conference was held in the city of
Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman in 1994 and the conference has been
hosted in all GCC countries till date, of which the UAE is hosting the
Conference for the second time.
He
also announced that starting today; Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman will be
appointed chair of the GCC Assembly on behalf of the UAE, for two years.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai,
Minister of Finance and UAE President of Dubai Health Authority,
accompanied by Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai
Health Authority inaugurated the exhibition held on the sidelines of the
Conference. It is noteworthy that more than 24 companies are
participating in the Exhibition with latest equipment, devices and
techniques in the field of medical diagnosis, treatment and surgery of
ENT medicine on display.
