The effectiveness and performance of a school are largely dependent upon a strong leadership team. Ever since the inception of The Arcadia Preparatory School, the Board of Directors has sought to hire the most qualified leadership team. Indeed, the board’s first priority was to find the right Principal to help recruit the teaching staff and be someone who would inspire them to give their absolute best.
Selecting a principal for the school was no easy feat and was preceded by many hours of research into the school’s values and vision, and how the Principal would incorporate these into daily school life. However, one candidate stood out from the numerous resumés: that of applicant Graham Beale, who is today the founding Principal of The Arcadia Preparatory School.
“When I was first approached by Mohan Valrani to become Principal of their new school it quickly became apparent that they had done their homework. They knew precisely what makes the kind of environment in which children thrive, and The Arcadia Preparatory School was clearly going to be that place,” says Graham Beale.
Principal Beale has wide experience and expertise in international educational leadership having successfully led schools in the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, as well as in his home country of New Zealand. He recently completed his Masters of Science with Distinction through Leicester University in the UK, specialising in research on the development of high-performing professional teams within an international context. He also served as Head of Primary at Al Khor International School, Qatar, one of the largest British curriculum primary schools in the Middle East.
“Managing nearly 600 teachers and staff can be challenging at times, which is why instilling a commitment to staff with the new, purpose-built Arcadia Teacher Housing and being able to build and foster a culture of dedication is a great starting point,” he continues.
Principal Graham Beale was appointed one year ahead of the school’s actual opening date of September 2016 - twice the amount of time stipulated by local regulations - and, assisted by the school’s newly-appointed deputy principal Kephren Sherry, immediately began the teacher selection process. Working with Gabbitas Educational Consultants, a list of over 800 applicants were eventually narrowed down to a list of 50 high-calibre candidates, and then again to twenty-two official hires, thus completing the school’s teaching staff.
“We are absolutely delighted with all of the teachers we have employed and are and equally delighted by the speed with which every single one of them signed their contracts,” reports Principal Beale.
