Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, January 29th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Al Ain Traffic Section affiliated with the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police distributed awareness brochures in hopes of curtailing run-over accidents. In accordance with the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police, the initiative focused on benefiting pedestrians on roads.
Major Salah Abdulalh Al Humairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section, noted that this traffic awareness initiative falls within the pedestrian safety campaign that was recently launched by the Ministry of Interior under the slogan “Ensuring Pedestrians’ Safety”. This initiative aims to enhance awareness amongst both drivers and pedestrians regarding the need to adhere to traffic rules in a bid to avoid run-over incidents.
Adding further, Al Hemairi urged drivers to comply with the rules and regulations of traffic and to give priority to pedestrians who use the designated crosswalks in order to maintain their safety and the safety of road users. “This would contribute to achieving the highest levels of traffic safety for all and to curtail incidents related to traffic and run-overs,” he said.
For his part, Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Manager of the Public Relations Branch at Al Ain Traffic Section, warned pedestrians and motorists about the consequences of violating the laws and instructions of traffic – which may result in run-over accidents. Moreover, he appealed to pedestrians to use the designated crosswalks and to comply with pedestrian signals at intersections.
