The Ministry of Interior recently celebrated the graduation of the first batch of students from the Smart Government Training Program. The program was launched by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). As part of the program, 18 officers were trained in supervisory skills by international experts assigned by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for this purpose. It was the first in a series of integrated programs in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and in other emirates.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, said: “The Ministry of Interior, in pursuance of the government's visions, is seeking to achieve the ‘UAE Vision 2021’ and its most important components; particularly attaining a global leading position in the delivery of government services across all available platforms and communication channels.” He pointed out the keenness to build and enhance national competencies in this area, and prepare highly qualified officers to ensure a smooth transition to this stage.
“The Ministry of Interior is working to raise awareness and apply the best techniques in this area in order to offer the best services and motivate its staff members, based on creativity and innovation factors. This is also achieved depending on a clear understanding of the needs of nationals and customers, in line with their expectations in providing services that match the quality of those available in the private sector through the exchange of experiences with the outstanding entities developing mobile applications around the world,” he added.
He also pointed out the particular importance of this training program to help spread the smart government culture among government employees and university students. “The ministry’s participation in this training program will help implement the smart transition plans, according to the proper scientific methodologies and best practices. The graduation of the first batch of students from this program will be followed by other batches, which will include the employees working in the technology and Information security field in all sectors and departments at the Ministry of Interior,” he concluded.
For his part, Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said: “The Ministry of Interior is the leading government entity to implement e-transformation of government services and smart government services in particular. We are honored to cooperate with the ministry to improve national competencies, in order to maintain our country’s leading position and boost its global competitiveness.”
He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Interior for their remarkable interaction with the year-long smart government training program, which aims to train 2000 employees and university students across the country on smart government concepts.
The Ministry of Interior had hosted a workshop on January 13th, 2014 with the aim of exploring the comprehensive training project’s prospects and possibilities for cooperation with the authority in this regard. The workshop was attended by a delegation from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and led by Engineer Majed Al Mazloum, Smart Government Training and Education Project Manager.
The smart government training program launched by the TRA includes four courses, each designed for a particular category of employees and those concerned with smart government services in the government bodies. The categories include: Information Technology Staff Members (systems and networks); Programs and Applications Development Staff Members; Information Security Staff Members; and the Supervisors’ category.
Trainees of the supervisors’ category attended theoretical and practical presentations related to the drafting and management of the smart government strategy, as well as the means to link this strategy to other strategic initiatives such as the e-government. They were also adequately briefed on the guidelines and roadmap leading to the implementation of the smart government in the UAE, in addition to the basic selection factors of the optimal technical solutions to achieve optimal user experiences and maintain the balance between technical requirements and user experience, as well as the security risks associated with the transfer of smart devices to other countries.
Moreover, International experts participating in the course submitted a presentation on the basic factors for selecting the optimal technical solutions to achieve optimal user experiences such as the type of data, maintaining the balance between technical requirements and user experience, as well as the risks associated with the transfer of smart devices to other countries and data that may be acquired using public key certificates (digital certificates).
