BOSTON - Wednesday, September 4th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) “The Best is Yet to Come” is the theme of the first annual International SINA Day conference October 12 at the Harvard University Science Center. It will honor 12 distinguished world leaders of Iranian descent. Organizers anticipate more than 500 attendees for the one-day event.

SINA, Spirit of Iranian Noted Achievers, is an organization of Boston-area scholars and students that launched earlier this year to formally recognize and honor Iranians for their outstanding contributions in the Arts, Business & Leadership, Engineering, Humanities, Medicine, Philanthropy and Science.

Four of the world leaders are being honored for contributions in specific fields. They are Mr. Bahram Beyzaie, Prof. Nader Engheta, Prof. Homa Katouzian, and Dr. Gholam Peyman. Eight others are being inducted into the SINA Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement. They are Mr. Mehdi Fakharzadeh, Mahmoud Farshchian, Dr. Abolghassem Ghaffari, Prof. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Ostad Jalil Shahnaz, Prof. Parvaneh Vosough, Prof. Ehsan Yarshater, and Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh.

“The entire SINA community is honored to highlight these world class leaders for their accomplishments,” said Ali Kabiri, a SINA executive team member. “And what better place to do so than at Harvard, an internationally recognized forum for the exchange of knowledge in many fields,” he added.

SINA has among its goals to connect Iranian achievers of the past and present, and to inspire future generations of Iranians. SINA strives to provide an encouraging and supportive world community for Iranians who contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the future, and serves to make known to the world the many far-reaching achievements of Iranians throughout history. Many current globe-leading honorees will speak during the International SINA Day conference, inspiring attending students and others with their powerful insights.

“In all my years I have not had such an honor and felt so privileged to be entering the SINA Hall of Fame and to be chosen as one of the keynote speakers for this truly joyous day,” said financial services icon and honoree Mehdi Fakharzadeh, who also will deliver a keynote to the conference.

SINA Day Program

The International SINA Day will include two keynotes and five speeches, including opening remarks from Dr. Mehdi Zarghamee, founder of the Isfahan University of Technology. There also will be two awards ceremonies for 2013 Hall Famers and Honorees. More detailed information is available at the Program page on SINA’s web site.

“We will have a global audience through streaming, social networking and Twitter,” said Maryam Ghasemi, a SINA executive team member. Live streaming of the International SINA Day will be available at http://www.sinairan.org/live. Social media access will be available via the following: SINA Facebook: www.facebook.com/SINAaward, and SINA Twitter: https://twitter.com/SINA_IRAN.

About SINA

The name SINA doubles as an allusion to Ibn Sina (known to the Latin West as Avicenna), the visionary Persian polymath whose vast contributions to medieval intellectual history are virtually unparalleled. Ibn Sina epitomizes the spirit that we aim to celebrate and promote at SINA.
