VERSAILLES, France - Thursday, November 1st 2012 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS
WIRE)-- Trusted Labs, a leading expert in security consulting and
evaluation services, today announced it has provided the expertise to
achieve a major breakthrough: the first smart card integrated circuit
(IC) to obtain the highest level of internationally recognized security
assurance for IT systems, the Common Criteria EAL7.
Trusted Labs
supported Samsung in fulfilling the EAL7 high security requirements by
mathematically verifying the secure design and developing in-depth
testing methodology of the Memory Protection Unit, which is at the core
of security in integrated circuits.
The EAL7 certification of the
EAL5+ certified IC - Samsung flash 264Kbyte smartcard IC for finance,
security ID based on 90nm technology - brings the highest assurance on
the implementation of the IC’s security-critical functionalities.
Trusted
Labs managed this project with a cost- and time-effective approach,
providing the necessary assurance to Samsung in nine months. The IC has
been successfully evaluated by the French laboratory CEA LETI. The
results are currently being validated by the national French IT security
agency ANSSI(1).
Claire Loiseaux, President of Trusted Labs,
comments: “I’m proud of our ability to adapt our Common Criteria and
Formal Methods know-how to the hardware core of secure devices”. She
continues:“This project will benefit the embedded devices industry,
offering an efficient way to increase security by design and thus foster
trust among end users in an open world.”
