Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, June 14th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Lieutenant
General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of
Interior, praised the quick response by the various government and
community-based institutions to the MoI’s awareness-raising campaign,
which was launched under the slogan “They Fooled Me” to educate the
public on the risks and dangers of drug use and abuse.
The MoI
Undersecretary said that ADNOC group of companies and the Department of
Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi are the first institutions to interact with
the MoI’s campaign’s objectives, aimed at enhancing public awareness on
the risks of the drug scourge. He also called upon community segments
and institutions to follow suit and participate in this community-based
campaign.
He also lauded the cooperation of print, TV and radio
media with the campaign’s objectives, as well as the interaction of
social networking sites’ users with the ministry’s appeal to participate
in “They Fooled Me” campaign, implemented by the Security Media
Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Interior.
Moreover, Lieutenant General
Al Sha’far stressed the MoI’s keenness to increase public awareness on
the dangers of drug abuse in general, and to highlight the negative
impacts on the individual, family and society. It also aims to warn
young people below 18 years of age against the “first free try of
drugs”; to acquaint them with the risks and devastating impacts of
drugs; to advise them to not consume any unknown substances; and to
explain methods to identify drugs and how to counter them. It also seeks
to encourage young generations to reject the “first free try of drugs”,
and educate them about the emotional and financial harmful effects that
addicts may encounter to obtain these substances.
The Department
of Transport in Abu Dhabi announced that it will soon be displaying the
MoI campaign’s slogan “They Fooled Me” in public buses and praised the
Ministry of Interior’s efforts in launching the campaign and achieving
effective interaction with the public by organizing several efficient
awareness activities and events, especially via social networking sites.
This, in turn, would reflect the general context that the police is
capable of keeping abreast of developments and achieving the police and
security system’s objectives.
The ADNOC group of companies
indicated through ADNOC Distribution that the stickers with the MoI
campaign’s slogan “They Fooled Me” will be displayed on the sliding
doors of the Oasis Convenience stores at all ADNOC service stations
across the country. Employees working at the service stations will also
be wearing T-shirts bearing the campaign’s slogan. ADNOC group of
companies also praised the strategic partnership with the Ministry of
Interior and the keenness to support various initiatives, events, and
awareness campaigns; particularly those targeting the youth and society
members in general.
In its message addressed to society, the
Ministry of Interior reiterated its willingness to help those who had
fallen prey to drug abuse in order to assist them on their way to full
recovery, with a view to rehabilitate them and gradually integrate them
back into society as productive individuals that can play a significant
role in serving society and the country.. The ministry also noted that
drug addicts are treated just like any other patient, saying that “we
all share a part of responsibility and we all should seek to cure
addicts of their addiction.”
